Is anyone going to Infineon on Nov 21st, or Buttonwillow on Nov.28th?
I need another fix for my track addiction soon.
The Dec. 4th Laguna Seca (NCRC) event is full , and I was at Thunderhill just last weekend. So I'm not interested in another T-Hill event for a month or two.
I'm thinking about going to one of the following events. I know that both organizers puts on good track day events, and both tracks are a lot of fun too. The thing that will help me decide is whether any of my friends will be there also. Are any of you going to either of these?
Previous Vettes:
'00 Torch Red convertible, Black top & interior, Z51, 6-speed, 3LT.
'87 Dark Red Met. 'vert, 4+3 shifter.
'70 Donnyebrooke Green coupe, 454/390, 4-spd, AC, PS, PB.
'89 Dark Red Met. 'vert, A/T, ZZ4 engine, 4-pt roll bar, big brakes, bigger radiator.
I've never done an open track event, and I was going to go to Sacramento for the test and tune. But I've drag raced all season and I've been interested in track recently (I did my first autox too), so I think I will sign up for this...and it's close to home. Thunderhill is so far. Thanks for posting this!

You came to the right place. Several of the people here have been doing HPDE/track events for several years. For example, I've been doing them for over 8 years. All of us veterans started out as complete novices, and got a lot of advice from the veterans. So now we have a duty to help out the novices. We're here to answer any questions you may have, or to do anything we can to make you more comfortable as you take this big step.
I have to work on Sundays, so I can't do the 22nd (or the 29th either).
I just found out last night that I will have to work on the 21st, but not the 29th. (I'm trading a work-day with a coworker.)
So my work schedule has made the decision for me. I will be going to Buttonwillow on Nov. 28th or 29th, or maybe both days.
Astrodokk, If you want to come to Buttonwillow on one or both of those days, I'll guide you through your first track day. Let me know which day(s). Sorry that Buttonwillow is so far from you, but it really is a fun track. If you want to go to Infineon instead, then someone (maybe Trackboss) will probably volunteer to guide you through your first track day there.
Thanks for the offer. I'll be in Seattle on the 28th over the Thanksgiving holiday, so I can't make Buttonwillow. I may not even make Infineon on the 21st if I find I have a problem with my engine. I bottomed out over a dip on the freeway and hit the oil pan, which knocked the pickup loose, which caused zero oil pressure. I'm going to take the pump out for inspection, and if it's cracked, I'll need to order a new one. So hopefully everything will be together and tight by the 21st. I've already registered for it but have not paid yet. Hopefully I'll see 'ya.
Carlos
The circled "bulge" used to be flat! When I dropped the pan a few minute ago, the pickup was at the bottom of the pan. I hope the pump is still good.
DarkMastyr, HPDE and TT get lumped since many migrate from one to the other and
some groups run them together, just allowing those that want to run a timer and others
to not run a timer. Some such as NASA run a separate TT group but that is the only
regular group in Nor Cal that I know with a separate group. NCRC runs them together
in the upper groups or a special session and SpeedVentures does the same in all groups.
When you run HPDE in your first few times on track the last thing to worry about is times,
but as you progress it is really the only way to judge advancement of your skill set. And
it is a tremendous amount of fun! Most groups class based on your car and what tires
you run so any set up is ok, I never got beyond street tires, 220 wear rating, so you don't
have to go beyond that. Missing my track time, enjoy!

Bob, good luck at Buttonwillow. I won't be making it to Infineon. My car is out of commission. Not only did the oil pickup dislodge, but the bearings fried. Gonna have to pull and teardown the engine over the winter. Any suggestions you have for a C2 that will be used for track would be appreciated. Already getting new sway bars and have the slicks.
Thanks for pointing that out. Last night I looked over the schudules for t-hill, sears, and, BW to see what was left. Sears for some reason does not list the 12/7 event and I would have not known about it. If the weather is dry I'll be there.
Hope the day ended well for everyone. Got to take a couple rides helping
a newbie make it around the track in the morning and then bailed out on
the rest of the day. It sure was a great day to be out on Sears Point, just
a beautiful day (except for maybe the guy who had his very new P-car
delivered to one of the NASCAR garages), guess taking it home might have
just raised more questions. Ugly.
