Default Looking to buy C6Z - what problem areas to inspect? Richie??

I posted this in the C6Z forum and I'll post on the Other forum too.

Aside of checking for signs that some cowboy like Vic owned it what other problem areas are they finding with used C6Z's? I'm going to ck an 07.

Someone suggested taking the VIN to the dealer and getting a complete service history printed out.

Thx,
PT

First thing, make sure they don't post on this forum, otherwise its been tuned and thrashed! If it were me, I would prefer a totally stock car. Good luck.

I beg to differ here. Why would you want a tottaly stock unit? Yeah we all know Vic raced his, but not all owners do this. If it has the stock tires with tons of meat, no rubber in the wheel wells, clean vin, and feels strong go for it. I would love to find one with a nice intake, exhaust, wheels, etc... and you like them why not save? Now if it for some reason has a new clutch, hardened shafts, or paint work run. You have ben here long enough to know what the RACERS buy. I am the perfect example. I have every fricking mod you can think of including Nitrous, cam, 4.10, clutch, heads, etc... you would think I race the hell out of this car but truth is the thing is a toy I like to play with and I have never even sprayed it on the street or track.

There really is no issues that you can easily look at from the outside. I would just buy one from somebody that you get a good vibe from and looks like they take care of it. The good thing is the '07's have the 100K powertrain warranty so it will cover most of the major issues. I can run all the warranty history and stuff for it. I aaaume that you are going to track it so don't be worried if it has been down the strip a time or 2. I would have bought Vics car in a second if it was available when er were looking. I know who did all the work on it and that Vic took good care of it.

Remember, you have a friend in the car business that can take care of issues for ya.

I like darker colors better, but they are a bitch to keep clean and I'm cursed with wanting it to always SHINE as if Jeff just wrapped up a detail job. I have Electron Blue currently, wanting JSB. Silver is about the only other choice I'd consider cuz it doesn't show dirt. I had a silver Z28 back in the day.

But as my non-Z owning, motorhead buddy put it, "Even though Z's look awesome in any color, I just don't think silver is badass enough for you."

FWIW, that silver '07 on CL up in Concord is *allegedly* one of those perfect condition, owned by a woman who didn't like it that low so she traded it in for an SL500 Mercedes, no mods, yada yada cars.

Well, there's an easy way to make it look like Jeff just shined it up

What are used stock Z's selling for at the dealer? I am still thinking of trying a Viper. But I am not letting my car go for $40,000. F--- that. Way to much work done to it.

And the sad part is 03's are $20k - $28K ish and don't seem to be selling. : (

Since most everyone thinks we have more "down" to go in this messed downturn, the people holding out for $XXK that have to sell will drop their prices more. Good news for buyers, sux for sellers and/or traders in.

I better go throw another coat of WAX on it and maybe take a trip to Stead when the weather dries out.

If you like Yellow, there is an 07 Z I was looking at 13k miles 49.5k ASKING price. The guy is a straight forward person, used it as a cruiser. Only thing I can question is the work was done by crown, and the records are lost due to crown being sold (what I was told) but can probably be found if it was a deal breaker.
Hey I like the "barbie" color!

So how much longer until I can get an '06 for $30k?

Too bad they only made 282 (IIRC) DSOM Z06s.
