Default What is normal cost of a gear swap with the trans out??? Is a Z06 rear a good core???

I really think when I do my clutch I also want to go to 4.11 gears. With the rear out of the car what would it cost to have a shop put in a new set? I know the Z gears are shot peened is this a logical rear to have upgraded, or would you be better off selling it and getting a standard rear??? Please educate me on this.

I wish you would have said this a couple weeks ago. I just sold my DTE Stage IV 4.11 rear to Robert. I could have suckered you out of a few more dollars for it.

I would have not done the 4.10's if I did it again. I would stick to 3.73 or 3.90's. It was waaaaaaaaaay to much gear for a high HP car. When I used to wind it out to 7,500 it was great and sounded cool, but that's it.

I would not just do a gear swap. At that point it is smart to get a whole upgraded unit from DTE or RPM with the hardened shafts, polished gears and the extra pinion support. Jusy my .02

With the Z06 trans already being geared lower than the standard coupe(from gears 1-3 or 1-4), I think it would be best to stick with the 3.42s, especially if you plan to add power in the future.

I think the rule of thumb is a Z06 with the 3.42s is like a regular coupe with 3.73s.

I am already putting down 560hp not sure i will be adding much more power. I think 4.11's would just be fun as hell.

Your 1stand 2nd gear will be uesless. I would really look into swaping out gears before you do it. I have seen many people who endup switching back to 3'42 after a few months

maybe you should go for a ride in Mikes car so you can see how the 4.10s handle that way you arent stuck looking to swap again in a few months when you get sick of them

That would be kinda hard with out a motor. I'll send you a PM teddy. I really liked them when I had the cam and nitrous.

Nope I went for it. I am cam only 90% of the time so no worries. When I am spraying I might hate the shifting but thats fine. Thanks Mike.

We have gears in stock and can always help you build the box. We do lots of them and we can give you all the options you like.

A straight gear swap should cost you no more than 200 bucks in labor. I was charged 150 by my transmission shop.

Are you talking taking it in and out of car? Or just labor for the box work?

Right on Robert. See you Saturday.

I initially was wondering the cost with my rear diff out of the car, but now that I am getting a complete RPM rear assembly and a clutch at the same time it does not matter. Man those rear 20"s are going to be pissed off at this decision. HAHA
