Default Was forced to drive my 67 roadster today

My 07 coupe was in the shop most of the day (getting an undercarriage noise diagnosed) and I had to run a bunch of errands. My wife was zooming around in her Miata, so that left the (almost) all-original 67 Goodwood Green 327/350 4-spd factory-AC ragtop Vette. Oh, well, some days you have to suffer. I put 25 or 30 miles on the 67 and got lots of thumbs up and admiring glances. Once in a public parking lot there were a couple of guys looking the car over when I returned. Many questions. All in all, a good day for everyone!

What a hardship! You and Doug both having to slum around in your alternate vehicles.

Hey Louie, your 67 is super - I bet you got a lot of looks...

Hope your noise issue gets settled. At Boardwalk?

Louie ... If it's an exhaust leak (pulsating hissing sound) you're looking for ... have them check the compression joint in the pipes just forward of the differential. I have a leak there myself and will be taking it in to Boardwalk to fix under warranty.

Brad ... hey buddy, how's it going?

Mark and Brad..... The undercarriage noise seems to be suspension-related and only happens at very low speeds (1-25 mph) on rough paving. The Boardwalk tech, Jim, finally was able to make the sound happen by jerking the steering wheel to the left while rolling along slowly. We both thought it was something loose at the rear of the car. He used a remote wireless microphone to locate the noise by driving the car a bit, then moving the mic until the noise was eventually found at the FRONT of the car. He discovered a loose lower ball stud at the front stabilizer bar, with some play in the right-side ball stud. He also found a creaking noise from the stabilizer bar bushings when the "stab bar" (what?) is moving. The parts are on order and will be warrantied onto my car next week. Hope this is the fix, since this noise has been bugging me for a couple of months or so. I'll post here once the repair is done and some time goes by to make me feel confident that the problem is gone.
Darn, might have to make do with the 67 for a day next week too!

Glad you finally got it fixed. For a while I thought you were describing my joints on cold days. ;-)

Louie: What a great idea for diagnosing. Nice that Boardwalk is taking it seriously. Good luck with the fix.

Mark: Hey, got about 4K on my 08 already... Sorry couldn't hook up at LS. Went to the track with people in Santa Cruz (who later became bored at LS and wanted to leave early) - and my cell was left in my car at their place charging...

Oh, so THAT was the noise I heard at Malibu Grand Prix last week. At the time I thought the suspension on your car had worn out. Glad the car's OK, bummer about your joints!

Hey, I had forgotten all about being stood up at ALMS! Well, next year you've got three chances to redeem yourself ... he, he, he ... we're probably heading to three events at LS next year ... the Festival of Speed (return of the CHAMP cars), the Historics and ALMS.

I've just turned 3K on the '08 Z. The new interior is in and a harness bar, harnesses and other safety equipment are in progress. Will be looking to sign up for a track event soon.

Next Saturday (12/8) I think we may head up to Ridge Winery in the Santa Cruz Mountains for a little picnic and wine tasting. Are you and Jean interested?

- Mark
