Woo Hoo! Wiskey for my men and Black Plates for my horses!
My pet bill, A.B.462 that permits 1963 - 1969 cars to participate in the Year of Manufacture license plate program, was signed by the Governator on Thursday, Oct. 11. As of July 1, 2009 we will be able to re-register our cars with black and yellow plates for a modest fee of $45. We will have to provide authentic CA plates and they have to be alphabetically correct for the year of the car, but we will no longer have to prove that they were the actual original plates for that car. People who have the original black and yellows on their cars will not be impacted by this new law. It doesn't become effective on January 1, 2008 because the DMV would have opposed it unless they had sufficient time to do the "systems" effort to make this happen. Since they are already doing the same thing for 1962 and earlier, it kind of makes you wonder what "systems" effort is necessary, but, hey, in a year from July I'll finally be able to drag those black plates out of my trunk and put em on the car.
