Default AB 462 to be heard a second time.

AB 462, the bill to extend the Year of Manufacture license plate program to cars built between 1963 and 1969, will be heard a second time by the Assembly Appropriations Committee on Thursday, May 31. This bill was placed in suspense because the committee's fiscal analyst reported that it would cost >$150K to implement. He did not consider the fees from registrations ($35 per car). The committee needs to be convinced that the vintage car community in CA will support this program with registrations. Contact the committee members by going to assembly.ca.gov and clicking on "Committee Directory" and then "Committee on Appropriations". Express your interest in supporting this bill if it becomes law.

It passed the Assembly Appropriations Committee unanimously yesterday. It will now go forward to the Assembly floor where it will likely pass since it was unanimously backed by both the Transportation Committee and the Appropriations Committee. From there it's to the Senate Transportation Committee, the Senate Appropriations Committee and the Senate floor. Assuming it passes those hurdles, it will then go to the governor. I hope Arnold is as good a buddy of Jay Leno's as it seems on TV.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who took the time to write to the committee members. I'll keep you informed as the bill progresses.

Maybe the thing to do is contact Leno (not sure just how), make sure he knows about this, and get him on board.

Isnt this some sort of license plate bill of some sort? I thought it was something to do with smog checks/exemptions and such and really important for us older muscle car collectors like myself.

It passed the Assembly floor on a 79-0 vote and is headed to the Senate Transportation Committee. The bill allows people with 1963 - 1969 cars to re-register using date correct real California black and yellow license plates. It has nothing to do with smog control or anything "important" like that. The Governor has already said he'll sign it if it gets to his desk.
