Oh, also paying for my 89 Corvette convertible ... $181.61.
This one should go down next year because I finally cancelled the regular registration and re-registered it as a "Classic"

Love CT
What's your mill rate, that's part of the problem. They use NADA retail as a base, so switching to "classic" plates won't change tax value.

YOU MIGHT HAVE TO GET A JOB

Congrats on your retirement John, hope every day brings lotsa R&R and fun!!

Property tax assessment for classic plates is capped at $500 assessed value, so it is worth it. Other towns let you file a form for 20+ year old vehicles to get the tax exemption/reduction, but not where John is. (I fill that form on my 68 camaro each year, but run the classic plates on the 62) $13.84 each for tax.

Holy Crap!!!

I was floored when I learned about NH's registration fees, I thought they were insane. But WOW I'm glad I don't live in CT!

NH's is:
.0018 the first year based on MSRP
.0015 the second
.0012 the third
.0009 the fourth
.0006 the fifth
.0003 the rest of the life of the car

GAWD, I want to move back to PA where it is a flat 36.00 per year.

I cringe at the thought of what you must pay on your house!
I would have thought Washington would be very expensive since its a very rich town.

Snow plows and Schools, best in CT.

If you turn your plates into DMV, put a 'hold/pause'on the reg for the 4-6 months its not being used you can chop the bill down 30-50%.

I reside in Long Island and CT. It's most likely worse in NY.

I don't think any Sims town employee makes <70k year. They need the extra pay for the high taxes

LOL, I doubt it. I'm in NJ. I couldn't recommend anyone move here to get away from taxes with a clear conscience.

When you do come down here after retirement, make sure you don't bring along the voting demographic that got you those 'fair share' tax rates.

That seems excessively high. What are they assessing it at?

I didn't even pay that on my Cayman S, which was worth about the same as a 2006 Z06.

Edit: Holy Simsbury mill rate. Had no idea. Ours (Milford) was ~25 my last tax bill.

NY is not cheap but it isn't worse

No car tax, but property tax on houses can be crazy. Look at Westchester. Pretty sure it's worse there than anywhere in CT.

Kent property taxes are the lowest (or among the very lowest) in Connecticut - consider yourself lucky

Please don't let the polithiefs here in **** Jersey see this tax opportunity.

What's next? Sales tax on our houses? Here's an interesting tax fact about New Jersey Real estate taxes...New Jersey is the ONLY state in the union that funds it's Board of Education solely on the backs of the real estate taxes (most states spread the school funding over many taxes). That's why our taxes are higher than almost every state in the union, and comprise 52% of the total home owners taxes. I think it's time for another "tea party",LOL!

I've lived in the same house for 31 years, and can remember when I bought it I was taxed on "heated living space", not the basement, attic, or garages. Now those spaces AND my concrete driveway. sidewalk, etc is considered an "improvement" and taxed!

Let me tell you how it will be
There's one for you, nineteen for me
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman

Should five per cent appear too small
Be thankful I don't take it all
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah I'm the taxman

If you drive a car, I'll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat.
If you get too cold I'll tax the heat,

If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet.

Don't ask me what I want it for
If you don't want to pay some more
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman

Now my advice for those who die
Declare the pennies on your eyes
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman
And you're working for no one but me.
