Default Recommendation for a machine shop in CT?

I've been searching around for a good machine shop in the area but I thought I'd ask here for some recommendations since some of you might have had work done locally.

I'm looking to have some mild port and polish work done to my heads and possibly my intake manifold port matched. Nothing crazy and nothing I feel like trying myself at the moment. I have enough on my plate!

A few shops I've called haven't been that helpful so I'm hoping to have better luck with suggestions here.

Thanks in advance guys!

Call Ray at the Corvette Center in Newington.

I agree with CT above they do excellent work. Or try any speed shop, they have machine shops built in. A normal machine shop will not show much interest as you have said!

I would start with calling Ray at the Corvette Center, they have a number of specialized machine shops that they work with.

Given the cost to port your 241 heads and their flow limitations due the head design, and the work involved with pulling them off, it would probably make more sense to go a new set of 243 (LS6) heads. You can buy a completely assembled set, ported with new valve seals, valves and springs for around 1,500 or so and they will make more power than your LS1 heads ported. You could always sell your old heads for a few bucks.

You cant port the stock intake manifold (either LS1 or LS6). GM didn't leave enough material for porting. You would need to go with a FAST 90 or 102 but that means a new throttle body. You might find a used FAST 78 on ebay (no longer in production) that would fit your 75 mm TB.

Sorry, I should clarify. I picked up a set of 799 heads (basically the same as 243) for a steal. I have them disassembled and was wanting to have the checked out, most likely have a valve job done and also some mild porting and polishing just to clean things up while they were off.

Hmm, that stinks about the manifold. I thought you were able to do a little rewokring but oh well. I've also read that price vs. performance gain for the FAST intake is not worth it which is why I was going to have work done to the stock manifold ( I have an 02 so the LS6 intake).

Also need to figure out my throttle body configuration. Bore the stock, get a stock LS2 or go aftermarket?

Since I'm in there I'm doing the cam, springs, trunion upgrade and whatever else along with the heads.

Thank you for the info though! I'll get in touch with Ray at the Corvette Center and go from there.

Sounds like your on your way.

I'm about to replace my present intake setup with a ported FAST 92, LS2 TB, and 90 mm MAF. Hoping for around 15 rwhp and better throttle response, the last mod for this motor. There are gains with the FAST, but the parts are not cheap.

Good luck with your build.

I am but there is no end in sight! Haha.

Now you've got me researching the Fast intakes and basically everything you are doing. Like I said before, its going to be apart so I might as well! You'll have to let me know how it turns out for you.

Now I'm also reading about the LS6 valley cover/PCV conversion? I already have a catch can. Not sure if that is worth it/over kill?

Thank you and good luck to you as well with yours.

Slowhawk, Don Kinder.

No other shop in New England will get better results.

Expect 40-50hp with only a cam swap.

Thanks Steve, that is where I had my car tuned. Don was a super nice guy. I plan on going back once the work is complete.
