A LEO on the njgunforum advised me to not even use hollow points in my house. He gave me a list of self expanding FMJ instead.
"I Wouldn't hassle you for having HP's in a home-defense shooting, however, even though it IS allowed under the way the law is written, there's nothing to say that some overzealous Prosecutor wont make an issue of it. My Reccomendation is Federal EFMJ (Expanding Full Metal jacket) it's a little spendy, but that, the Hornaday Critical Defense, and the Cor-Bon PowRball have become the rounds that Retired cops are carrying, since we arent allowed JHP either once we;re out. As far as the AR's, to make the 6920 compliant isnt a big deal, and the 15 round mags are"

"Qualified, with respect to a retired officer, means that he must pass a state (the state where he worked) firearms course, annually. He must be qualified with the same type of weapon that he wants to carry, revolver or automatic or both.
If hollow points are legal in the state you qualify in, the federal law supercedes the state law ... therefore, since NYS does not prohibit them, they are legal for me to carry in NJ.
As noted, this is for active police officers. HR 218 now states that the agency I worked for DOES NOT have to be the agency that qualifies me. Matter of fact, His Highness Raymond Kelly, NY's Finest's commissioner, has fought 218 from the get-go and never permitted the NYPD instructors to qualify retired personnel as he didn't want HIS officers to carry anything other than a NYC police authorized weapon ... even though he had no say in what a retired officer could carry. His stubborness in this regard was one of the motivating factors in 218 allowing any agency in the same state to qualify any retired officer that worked in that state.
WTF??
Under 218, Undertaker is qualified by the mere fact that he is an active police officer.

Before you ask. Retired LEO's have a similar qualification.....
A “qualified active law enforcement officer” is defined as an employee of a government agency
who:
is authorized by law to engage in or supervise the prevention, detection, investigation,
prosecution or the incarceration of any person for any violation of law;
has statutory powers of arrest;
is authorized by the agency to carry a firearm;
is not the subject of any disciplinary action by the agency which could result in
suspension or loss of police powers;
meets the standards, if any, established by the agency which require the employee to
regularly qualify in the use of a firearm;
is not under the influence of alcohol or another intoxicating or hallucinatory drug or
Revised 11/3/10 2
substance, and
is not prohibited by Federal law from possessing a firearm.

Once again you presume to know things about me that you dont. Just because I dont brag or post pictures of everything I have doesnt mean I dont have something that is being talked about
As for the topic at hand. I am 100% sure Crusher knows a little more than you regarding this subject. Do you even know what he did for a living before he retired? No? Didnt think so.
I'm not all about the debate card and if I was I would venture into C5 or C6 general to debate on how to wash my car, who has the best floor mats or where can I buy those nifty stick on thingy's for the tail lights. So with that said I'll let you guys have at it.
Have a great night DIS

Interesting Charlie. You can carry JHP ammo in NJ but I can't. Who knew? Never dissected HR 218 to that degree. Seems weird that for 25 years I could use JHP but once I retired I could not. Love to know what the hell goes through these law makers heads. BTW, I don't carry at all. Without the departments financial backing I don't want to lose everything I have because of using the gun. Even if it was a 100% righteous shoot you know your going to be sued and that price tag is one I don't need.
I do maintain my qualifications though. My dept. qualifies the retires but I sometimes qualify other places because of convenience.

Although I "don't leave home without it", I've resolved myself to the fact that the ONLY time I will use it is if MY life is threatened. Over the years I've learned that discretion IS the better part of valor and walking away is, almost always, the correct decision.
What do you mean this isn't the bar thread?

So Diss you have felt it necessary to elevate this to insults. Nice...
It concerns law enforcement only. It is fairly clear and evident if you read the entire bill.
A lof of this is off topic so lets try and keep it on topic and help Maj Z06 if we have any pertinent info concerning his particular situation....

I never understand these types of posts. If you don't like the thread or it somehow irritates you, DON'T READ IT. Seems really clear to me.

The two of you should take your own advice and just not read these threads.
