Default [Toys for Tots]Official T4T Thread!

Well, we're starting to get close and there's multiple threads going at once so I think its time for an official main thread in the sticky section!

Lets review...

  • Saturday, October 9, 2010
  • Meet at the Sandcastle Baseball Stadium at 12:00 Noon
  • Corvette Racing driver Johnny O'Connell Grand Marshall
  • Brickyard 400 Corvette Pace Car leading the group in
  • Special Offers for participants from Harrah's, Caesars, Showboat and Bally's Casinos
  • Dash Plaques for all participants
  • Lunch
  • Live Entertainment
  • Door Prizes
  • Raffle Prizes donated by Spring Mountain, Nakid Parts, SLP Engineering and Dana Forrester (cash donations going to Toys for Tots)

Remember to bring one or more new, unopened and unwrapped toy. If the toy(s) requires batteries, please purchase the batteries and tape them to the outside of the box.

This is a rain or shine event so don't let anything stop you from coming out for such a great cause!

We do ask that you register for the event by CLICKING HERE and you can also check that same page for updates.

This is the way we have been doing it for the past 6 years:

If the toy(s) requires batteries, please purchase the batteries and tape them to the outside of the box.

We also have to remove anything related to food-stuffs (ie: Candy Canes, M&M dispensers, Easy-Bake Ovens, etc).
What do they do with the batteries? A lot of guys get RC cars, etc, and the families that get those toys should not be spending money on batteries. To that point i always get toys that require no batteries.

I am not doubting that batteries would be required, however, given that at least one USMCR processing facility (PM me for specific info) removes various banned items from the gift stream ... it may make sense to verify (directly with the USMC source). I'd hate for people to spend extra money on batteries, if they do not follow the donations. I believe it is a "corporate" decision, but I could be wrong.
Our local branch leaves the batteries taped to the boxes that they come with. Also, they use the cash we give them that day (from raffle ticket sales) to buy more batteries. Our local guys won't let a toy leave the "store" without batteries even if they have to but them out of their own pockets.

There's nothing worse than a kid getting a cool toy Christmas day and not being able to use it because the parents can't afford batteries.

This will be my first year. Would someone tell me if there are staging areas, to form (or join) a caravan on the way to Farley Plaza? I will be coming from north of Philadelphia.

LOTS of "they" ... not sure if you mean Kerbeck or TFT.
Do you know if your local branch is a distribution facility (or, do they ship to an alternate location for sorting & distribution)?
Our local branch is the distribution center for 2 counties. The toys will go directly from our event to the store front that will open in December for parents to go and get the toys from.

Just a head's up for those folks buying toys. Fisher Price just had a major recall on roughly 10,000 toys. So please Google the information on the recall before you purchase your donation toys.
