There is ALWAYS major road work going on good old RT 81. At least during the week. (Been going to Carlisle area since 1995)
We leave Thursday morning and are prepared for it as we only go to our motel that day.
Most Sundays are decent driving going back home.
Hopefully our Pennsylvania brother/sisters will jump in this thread and give a good up to the date report.
Good driving folks, and I will meet/see a bunch of you at the fairground or restaurants in the area!

I just went into the Pa. DOT website on road construction projects. I see nothing noted for I-81 which is rare. Maybe some Pa. people can chime in.

Sorry to the bearer of bad news....there is road construction on I-81 in the Scranton area, just below where I-84 and 380/80 feed into I-81 bottle necks through there then clears up around Avoca/Pittston area. I was down that way last night. There was a sign warning about road construction starting on Aug 23 going through the 25th around exit 199.
If you are coming from the north you can bypass it by going to the Northeast Ext of the PA turnpike. Get on in Clarks Summit and get off at the Pittston exit (I believe its the second exit-its the one before Wyoming Valley)
, then hop back on 81 S.
Hope it helps!

I'm heading out Friday morning....78 West thru NJ, continuing on 78 thru Allentown into H'burg. Any road report for the section of 78 west of Allentown & the stretch of 81 into H'Burg & on to Carlisle? Also, for those who don't know the "back way" into the fairgrounds from 81.....take exit 61 to 944 West....couple of miles to 34 South & follow 34 to the fairgrounds. Avoids the backup on Route 11. Last year, the bridge on 34 just north of the fairgrounds was closed for construction, but must be open by now.

Thanks for the update & help .
Does anyone know if you can go I-84 to 380 to 80 back onto 81 around (Nescpoeck Mtn.) and miss this construction.
It is a delay with shifting traffic & lane restrictions, oris it major road repair concrete patching, paving,

If the construction on 81 is scheduled to end on the 25th, most of us should be OK. The 25th is Wednesday.

Frank.....I don't know of anyone else in the immediate area who's headed out Friday morning, but if you want to hook up, send me a PM & we can figure someplace to meet. I'm at Packanack Lake in Wayne & will be leaving at 7:30 & coming back Saturday late afternoon. Dave

I'm in Scotch Plains and will be leaving Friday morning. I will only be there for the day though, so I was planning on leaving my house at 6 am. I am happy to adjust that a little, but meeting up in NJ at 8 won't put us at the fairgrounds until about 10:30 and I was hoping to get there a little earlier than that!
