Default Traveling to the east coast- Need directions

Hello All,
I live in the Detroit area and I am thinking of taking a long drive for a vacation. I am thinking of leaving Detroit and heading to Philly for a first stop and then heading up the east coast. I don't have a solid plan yet so I would like to look for suggestions of places to visit and more importantly some nice roads and cruising scenery to pass through. I am thinking of taking this adventure in early July.

Also, I have checked the "stickys" for corvette gatherings but if you could also let me know which events are the best ones to attend I will try to plan my trip accordingly. Of course I can't make them all so your input on the above topics is greatly appreciated.

The WOLF PACK is always looking for an excuse to have fun . Post up the exact week you will be here and Alex ( he's a midget but he IS the lead male wolf ) just might arrange a run. Things have been slow so far this summer , the economy being what it is . Normally there is something going on every weekend.

Be fore warned , if it is a Wolf Pack run there will be POLICE

I can tell You Philly has a big celebration from June 26th till the 4th of July. Sheryl Crow will headline the free concert at the Art Museum on the 4th. Give Us a little more information on what Your looking to do. Are You traveling alone ? looking for History, nightlife Etc. The Philly Celebration is called Welcome America and you can get info on net.

Inasmuch as your first stop is Philly, perhaps on your way back take Route 6 thru Pa. It's sort of like the PA's answer to Route 66. Search the web for PA Route 6, there is plenty to see in each county and lots of travel planning ideas.

Check it out and enjoy your trip!

And, SAVE THE WAVE

I will be driving with my wife, in the vette of course.

My initial plans are once I leave Philly, probably to head up to NYC and drive north up the coast from there. But I have never been along the east coast so I am not really sure where I am going. I know I could read lots of books, but I thought it would be easier to turn to the experts.

Depending on the time you have, after NYC, take the LIE to Orient, take the ferry to New London, CT. Pick up US1 to Bar Harbor, ME, then go west on US2 across the top of NH & VT and up Lake Champlain to Rouses Point, then US11 to I-81, then I-90 west to close to home. You can stay close to the coast, but a lot of different routes to take, but you would get your sight seeing in.

Good luck on the trip, be safe.

Got to go to the Jersey Shore! Cape May, Wildwood has nice beach and boardwalk. There's Atlantic City, Seaside, Point Pleasant & etc. Best to go on week days, not crowded. Don't take the Jersey Turnpike please, the ride sucks.
Have a great time.

Get up in the morning, drive with the sun in you eyes. Keep the sun to your back in the afternoon. When your carpets get wet, you're there (unless you've been driving with the top down in a rain storm).

Thanks for the input so far. I am going to start mapping out my route soon. I have to be in Mexico for the next three weeks and I am hoping to start my drive to the east coast shortly after.

It would be great to make it to NYC to see the fireworks. Althought something tells me that it would be more hectic than the Detroit fireworks which brings in about a million people and is just frustrating to attend.

And to the Wolf Pack, I will certainly let you know when I will be passing through as I would love to catch a run with you guys.

Hopefully I can get some more feedback from this post.

My wife and I drive out to Grand Rapids every year and a good stopping point when you come east would be at Frank Lloyd Wrights "Falling Waters" house outside Pittsburg. Well worth the detour off I80 and leaves you about 5 hours away from Philly.

Out to the Orient Point ferry and heading up is a great idea. You may want to check to see if you need reservations for the car ferry. Depending on timing it can get busy.
