Any Veterans in your family?
If so make sure you reach out and thank them today .
I'll start, my father is 86. He was attached to the 451st Bomb Group, 727 Squadron, 15th Air Force out of Italy. On his seventh mission his group bombed the Markersdorf Airdrome in Vienna Austria. They were attacked by FW-190s. My fathers plane was hit several times, a fire started in the bomb bay, and all controls were lost, he cut engines, fell out of formation and gave the bail out order. His quote, "That was the end of my flying combat and the beginning of life without freedom, something that is very strange to an American. As a POW life became a mind numbing routine." He lost several crew members and was a POW for 9 months until Patton liberated him. Upon regaining his strenght he was assigned to Newark Airport as an Engineering Officer and Flight Test Pilot, aircraft flown: B-24, P-47, C-46, C-45, B-25, PT-17, BT-13, AT-10, AT-6. He had done all this by age 22. I guess I'm lucky to be here, I will call to thank him again .

My Dad was 18 years old when he served on a Light Cruiser in the Pacific Theater in WWII...and every single Veteran's Day I call him (at least) to thank him for his service to our great country.
Just spoke with him this morning...and we had a wonderful conversation.

My dad was in WWII - he was in the second wave on Normandy.
He has never talked about it.
My father-in-law was in the mechanics corp. during the Korean War.

Ditto. I remember there used to be a show on Sunday afternoon's, early 60's, (before football dominated the airwaves), I think it was called 20th Century?, that showed WW II footage. We would occasionally catch a view of the LCT(?) that he skippered on Omaha Beach. I sadly forget the number of his boat. It always made him happy and sad when he saw it.

My dad served in Korea...His Flag presented to my mom on behalf of a grateful nation, is part of my home, in the living room, watching John Wayne movies a few times a year. He's the reason along with all the other men & women that served our nation with honor I started Vets for Vettes

My father served in Europe from 1943-1945, most of the time with Patton's 3rd Army. He loved the Army his whole life. Later in life did lots of volunteer work with the troops at Ft.Dix.
He left us in Sept. 2002.
Step brother is a lifer in the Air Force, currently serving at the Pentagon. His last flying assignment was the F-117 Stealth.
My cousins oldest son has been in the Coast Guard for over 10 years. Served 2 terms in the Gulf during the Iraq War, boarding and searching ships.
God bless them all and all our brave troops.
