[Event] Bay State Corvette Club
Hello all.
Since I'm in town, I've decided to start this thread for all the Bay State Corvette Club activities.
I hope everyone had a nice holiday. This Wednesday, we are having our January meeting at Doc's in Milford. We had a great turnout at our recent holiday party, with almost every member and their significant other attending. I look forwarding to seeing many of you on Wednesday! Meeting starts at 7:30. Food starts when you get there.

Subject: Bay State Corvette Club January Update
Hi Everyone,
On Saturday evening, January 26th, we are heading down to the Cinema Pub on Rte 1 in North Attleboro. If you have never been there before, why don't you plan on joining us? For those of you who have not been there before, it is a dinner theater where you watch a recently released movie while you eat dinner. Movies usually start around 8:00 PM. I'll be able to send out what movies and show times we can choose from when the list of movies becomes available next week. Let me know if you are interested in going.
Sue and George will be hosting the club's 37th anniversary party at their home in Milford on Saturday evening, February 23rd. The theme for this year's gift swap is "Summer". Thanks to Linda Carrabba for coming up with this year's theme.
Well, you've heard about it, and you've seen it on the cover of Road and Track, Car and Driver, and Motor Trend, this month. It is the long awaited 600+HP 2009 ZR1 Corvette. We have the opportunity to see this car before almost everyone in the country. It will be on display at the Attleboro Arts Museum from March 21st to May 16th. On Saturday, March 29th, there will be a special presentation of the car, by invitation only. Guest speaker will be GM Chief Designer Kirk Bennion. There are 4 presentations, 10 AM, 12 PM, 2 PM, and 4 PM. Seating will be limited to 75 people per presentation. The 1st 75 will be assigned to the 10 AM presentation, the next 75 will be assigned to the 12 PM presentation, and so on. Tickets for this special event are $50. Admission will get you into the rest of the museum as well, which is closed to the general public for the day. If you are interested in going as a group, let me know, and I can try to place an order for the tickets at one time, so that we can all attend the same showing.

Subject: Tour of Factory Five Racing
Hi Everyone,
I am organizing a tour of the Factory Five Racing facility in Wareham, Ma. on Saturday morning, February 23rd. Factory Five is very well known for manufacturing one of the better Cobra replica cars in the world. Everything is done at their Wareham facility.
In addition to their Mk 3 Roadsters and Type 65 Coupes, they are currently manufacturing a new car based on a C5 chassis with the new LS family 427 Chevy engine. With 505 HP on tap, the car has recorded times of 0-60 in 3 seconds and 0-100 in 6 seconds. They currently have two of these new cars on display in their showroom.
I plan on leaving from the Ashmont shopping plaza parking lot on Rte 1A in Walpole at 8:30 AM, arriving in Wareham around 9:00 AM. As always, we can go out for a bite to eat afterward.
Factory Five would like a rough head count by the end of this week. If you are interested in going, please try to let me know ASAP. I'll update you along the way. So, if you don't feel like spending $50 to see the new ZR1 in Attleboro, why don't you join us for this event? It is free!!

Hi Everyone,
Just a reminder that we are having our March meeting at Doc's on Wednesday, March 12th, at 7:30 PM. Arrive early for food. We have many exciting things to discuss, such as the 2nd annual open house at the Bowtie Shop, the unveiling of the new ZR1 in Attleboro, both in March, and our bowling night where we will go head to head against members from Eastern Mass Corvette Club in April. We also have to start talking about our 2 autocrosses in May, as it is important that we get club support.
See you Wednesday!

Hi Everyone,
Last Saturday, Leslie and Joe Scafidi, along with Paul Thompson, invited us to the 2nd annual open house of the BowTie Shop in Billerica. Joe and his crew worked hard to put on a good show, and the results paid off. There was a nice turnout from the Corvette community. Fellow members Eddie, Carl, Janet, Don, Pete, Dave W., Anne W., and I toured the Bowtie Shop. There are truly some works of art in progress there.
Also last Saturday, Bert, Marie, and John R. attended the sneak peak presentation of the new ZR1 at the Attleboro Arts Museum. Bert said that Kirk Bennion gave a very informative insight into the design of the new ZR1. A wing, similar to the C6R wing, along with louvered fenders and a hood, were scrapped because their negatives out weighed their benefits. The car also started out as a twin turbo, but after the prototype burned to the ground due to an engine malfunction, that idea was scrapped. There were 27, or so, name/logo combinations, before ZR1 was chosen. The Corvette Action Center recorded a long portion of Kirk's presentation. Check it out at: http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...d.php?t=103524
Remember these dates:
Wednesday April 9th, Monthly meeting at Doc's Sports Bar in Milford
Saturday April 12th, Bowling Night at Ryan's Family Fun Center on Rte 109 in Millis. 6:30 PM.
Sunday May 4th, Bay State Corvette Club Autocross at Devens
Sunday May 25th, Musclepalooza VII at Lebanon Valley Dragway ( www.hemmings.com )
Saturday May 31st, Bay State Corvette Club Autocross at Devens

Hi Everyone,
Two weeks ago, 6 of us participated in Musclepalooza VII at Lebanon Valley Raceway in New York. Over 700 cars participated this year. We also just completed our 2nd successful autocross of the season. We had almost 60 cars at last Saturday's autocross at Devens. We will have a full update of each event at the June 11th monthly meeting.
On Sunday, June 8th, The Larz Anderson Museum in Brookline is hosting their annual Corvette Day on the lawn of the musuem. Gina and I will not be able to attend. You can call 617-522-6547, or go on line to find out more about this event.
On Friday evening, June 13th, the club is going to dinner and the movies at Cinema Pub in North Attleboro. More details to follow.
On Friday evening, June 20th, The Eastern Mass Corvette Club is hosting their 4th annual Past Hop to raise money for charity. It will once again be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall In Franklin. We voted at last month's meeting to make this a club event. I will have tickets at the June meeting. Let's try for a good turnout for this worthy cause. Over 100 tickets have already been sold, so you will see at least 50 other Corvettes in the parking lot. I will have tickets available at the June meeting.

I got to autox a a '70 500hp 454BB C3 last weekend, pretty car
Man that was a blast.
Peter, a new member of the Bay State Corvette Club brought his '70 454 big block coupe, complete with side pipes to the autox today.
At 1st he wanted me to ride along and give him some pointers, then he offered to let me drive it.
Gave him, his daughter, and her boyfriend all rides.
Even got Peter to shave 10secs off his times.
Good times where had by all!
That's the car that got me interesting in Corvettes to begin with,
and I got to not just drive, but compete in it!
Peter sent me some pics of his car, as well as a message

Subject: Re: [bscc] AutoX'd Peter's '70 500hp 454BB Saturday!
That was really awesome.
I've never had a chance to drive the car hard to see what is is really like.
It's always been sneaking around the roads getting on it here and there for a few seconds or 13 secs at the drag strip 13.1 @ 107 was my best time so far with two attempts (my first ever) at drag racing.
My goal there is to get into the 12's and now that the bad torque converter and new tranny are in it runs much better.
I'm sure it will get 12's now.
It was so much fun to be able to put it to my limit on the course (and over ....
sideways for fun :-) ).
Before I got there I was a little worried as to how bad I would be compared to the high tech cars there.
The C3 was a hit even if it doesn't run with the new stuff.
It was cool to be the only classic there and people really liked it.
My intent was to just run and have some fun, boy did I ever.
My daughter showed up, rode in some cars, had a blast and told me how cool my hobbies were compared to her mother's "refinish this board" offers.
My face hurt from smiling so much!
I got home and registered for Sept 28ths outing.
It would really be cool if some other BSCC owners would get there cars out.
Yohoo members, where are you?? :-)
Sat event pics
I didn't catch any videos of Peter's car, but here's one I made of me talking him out in mine and showing him the ropes.

Sunday - September 28th, our 4th and final autocross of the year at Devens. Bert, Pete, Brian Cunningham and I had a great time last week, so you won't want to miss this event.
Sunday - October 5th, our annual Fall Foliage Cruise, to be shared with our friends at Eastern Mass Corvette Club. I am sending along all of the information about this event. Please be sure to RSVP to me by 9/26.
2008 Fall Foliage Cruise
Sunday, October 5th
11:00 AM
Meeting Location: K-Mart Shopping Center Parking Lot, Rte 109 in Milford, exit 19 off Rte 495
Meeting Time: 11:00 AM
Departure Time: 11:30 AM
Destination: Collings Foundation in Stow, Ma.
RSVP needed by Friday, September 26th.
Details: We will depart from the K-Mart parking lot in Milford at 11:30 AM. I will lead us on a scenic drive through Hopkinton, Marlboro, and Hudson, on our way to the Collings Foundation.
Due to the large crowd expected to turn out, I was not able to secure a restaurant to eat at. However, you can call me or E-mail me and I can make suggestions to you for local eateries for breakfast before or a late lunch afterward, if you want to go in small groups.
The Collings Foundation is a private collection owned by the Collings family that has on display over 50 special interest cars, including Model As, Model Ts, Stanley Steamers, Bugattis, Packards, Rolls Royces, Duesenburgs, Auburns, Cords, Cadillacs, Ferraris, Porsches, Formula One cars, Indy cars, Sprint cars, etc. They also have on display World War I and World War II American and European fighter planes. The Foundation has its own private runway, and we can expect to see at least one of the planes fly. Scenic flights in a World War I trainer plane, to view the fall foliage, may be available as well.
We will be led on a two hour tour of the Foundation and its collection by Mr. Collings. The tour will be from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. There is a $5.00 charge per person, which goes into the upkeep of this unbelievable private collection.
The Collings family is opening their collection to us to view. It is very important that we have a good turnout. Please make every effort to attend this event and be sure to RSVP no later than Friday, September 26th.

Subject: October 5th Fall Foliage Cruise
Hi Everyone,
Responses are coming in for our Fall Foliage cruise on October 5th. Between the two clubs we have over 30 positive responses between the two clubs. We don't have a designated place to eat, because no one was able to accommodate the seating of 50 people at one time. We can meet earlier for breakfast or re-group afterwards for a late lunch. Since it would only be about 10 of us from Bay State, seating would not be an issue. Maybe we can find someplace in the vicinity of the Collings Foundation where we can all go for a late lunch at 3:30 or so.
Let me know what you guys think. Otherwise, we can just meet everyone else at K-Mart at 11:00 AM, with a departure time of 11:30 PM.
I hope that the store manager at K-Mart doesn't get too excited. He/she is probably not use to seeing 30 cars in his parking lot at one time!

Subject: Fall Foliage Cruise Update for 9/27/08
Hi Everyone,
Looks like we are going to have an excellent turnout for our fall foliage cruise next week to the Collings Foundation. If any of you get AutoWeek, there is a nice two page article on the foundation in this week's issue. I'll bring copies for everyone next week.
As of now, here is a list of who are going from our club:
Pete
Brian
Leslie, Joe, Danielle, Jojo
Marie, Ed
Joan, Carl
Anne, Dave W.
Anne, Dave C. and 2 guests
Bill T and 3 guests
Marie, Bert
Sue, George,
Gina, Andy
Leslie has been helping me to try to find someplace that we can go to afterward for a late lunch/early dinner. The Sky Restaurant in Sudbury is a possibility. Please let me know by Wednesday if you would be interested in going out after the tour to eat. Once I get a number, I can try to set up something with Sky. Leslie has already confirmed that they can easily handle 15, but I am sure that they can handle more, just as easily.
Remember, this is a rain or shine event. The private tour, conducted by Mr. Collings will run from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
Thank you from me to all of you who are helping to make this a successful outing!
And don't forget, Sunday is our 4th and final autocross of the year at Devens. Hope to see you there!

Subject: Fall Foliage Cruise Update for October 1st
Hi Everyone,
As of October 1st, we have over 60 people signed up to attend our Fall Foliage Cruise to the Collings Foundation on Sunday. The weather looks to be perfect. We will depart from K-Mart at 11:30, arriving at our destination at 12:15. Our tour will run from 12:30 to 2:30.
I want to update everyone on the meal opportunities. When we meet on Sunday, I will take a head count of people interested in going out for food after the tour. There is a Piccadilly Pub in Marlboro and the Sky in Sudbury, each being about 7 miles from the Foundation. Both restaurants have ample parking for our cars. Once I have the head count, I will contact each restaurant to make arrangements for them to seat us at 3:30 PM. Both restaurants should be relatively quiet at that time, so they should be able to accommodate us.

Yesterday's fall foliage cruise proved to be a success. We joined our friends from Eastern Mass Corvette Club. There were 67 people and 34 Corvettes in attendance. 26 people and 11 Corvettes were from Bay State Corvette Club. Leaving cloudy skies behind, we left K-Mart for our 22 mile journey to the foundation.
Brian, from the Collings Foundation, led us on a tour of this remarkable collection of vintage automobiles and aircraft. Pictures will be posted shortly. After the tour, 16 of us went to the Sky Restaurant for a good meal before heading home.
On Columbus Day, Monday October 13th, Sue and George will be leading us on a scenic tour of Newport. We will depart from K-Mart at 9:00 AM. More details will be available at Wednesday's meeting.
