Default [SYRACUSE 11/7/2007] - First plow / salt sighting --- now what do we do?!?

Yup... driving my Blazer home tonight, I passed a plow dumping piles of salt--- on a BARE ROADWAY and 37F out!

Sooooo, Calling State Farm to put C5 in hibernation mode until (forever) when spring comes.

It's gonna be a looooooooooong winter. I hope some other CNY guys will help me survive 5 months of torchure!

Maybe we can do some things this winter as a group to pass the time...

Chuck

Damn, that really sucks!! My only advice, move downstate, still in the 40's over here with no sign of snow plows anywhere (hopefully, it'll stay that way).

Alex:

You guys definitely get a longer season. Heck, the leaf peeper cruise has pix with green leaves! This year is sooo strange. In CNY, it is like somebody flipped a breaker to go from summer to winter?!?

I hope to put together a winter indoor go cart race outing or something to pass the time inbetween clearing / driving / dealing with snow.

Today's lake effect sealed the deal. Although the calendar says it is fall, it is now winter in CNY. The lake effect machine is "ON" and the plows have moved snow and been dumping salt all day.

I guess I have to give my C5 a hug and cover (tuck it in) for the winter nap.

Drive the car in the winter!!! It ain't gonna fall apart!
If there is no snow, the car should be driven. Salt can be washed off!

Snowed lightly here in PA last night too. Cold and windy still but it's supposed to be almost 60 by next week then back to freezing

We are having light snow tonight here in NC Pa. Luckily the salt trucks haven't been out yet or the C5 would be grounded.

It may not fall apart immediately, but it WILL corrode apart slowly (as both aluminum and steel corrode) - or worse - get taken out by some knothead. I have seen too many people slide into people expecting salt to work (where it was just glare ice)... ice boogers the size of footballs, etc... We get 10 feet of snow up here on average, and when we get lake snow, it can come down 3-4" per hour... plows sometimes can't keep up.

Nope, my ZR2 Blazer is designed for this stuff. The C5 is my fair weather toy.

Anyway, hopefully Pitt and I can get some friends together to pass the time while our Vettes sleep.
