I have a radar detector, and to avoid the "you should've bought this one" stuff, i'll just say its one of the top 3. It has always worked flawlessly, in every town, and highway. Its about 1-1/2yrs old. I noticed in the last week it hasn't alerted me on the GSP at all, and today I saw 5 S.P. cars in the usual spots on the GSP and the AC expressway alone. Medriver99 has a different brand detector, also in the top 3, and he has noticed the same thing. Both detectors can pick up laser, k, ka, etc..... We made a run today to Pa, and not a beep or arrow from either. I'm just wondering if the NJSP are testing, or have switched to a new wave/band for speed detection?

I hope not, mine is less than 1yr old and wasn't cheap
they are using POP-3, which is a .0001 second (something like that)burst of Ka ........... V1 claims they can detect it, but just like laser......it would be too late

POP 3 is being used. It is fast and I had to have the V1 upgraded to handle it.
From what I read Pop3 can only be used to get an initial speed reading and cannot be used to give a ticket. The LEO must switch to regular radar and then give the ticket off that. I am not certain how true it is, but maybe it makes some sense because they have to track your speed over a certain distance and the POP3 is so quick that it ends before that distance.
Anyway it only State Police that I have seen it used.
And yes pacing there is nothing you can do, but most of my surprises are from LEOs in the woods not from hanging behind me.
No detector is going to help you if they pace you. I don’t use one.
If you're being paced, and you speed, you need to have your DL taken away forever, a major azz kicking, and your car should be crushed and sold for scrap because you're a moron.

My V1 is POP enabled and riding with George yesterday and many other days recently, no warning.
I dont think the troopers are sitting in the bushes with no speed detection on.
Do we have any friendly troopers on the Forum who can shed some light on this??
I've got a V1 with POP 3 detection also. They may have just been hanging out without their radar on as a visual deterrent - I've noticed this a lot lately on the Turnpike and on 287 where they are out there in the open but with no radar on. Or if they were hidden they were just on standby waiting to nail someone with instant on.
Not sure about a new band but the only way a radar detector helps is if they shoot at a car somewhere ahead of you within the pickup range of your detector. If you are the only car on the road your're dead.
Ask me how I know. With the instant on, you can't beat it. My escort 8500 x50 sits in a cabinet at home.
Anyone want to buy it?
Ask Bad Machine maybe he could give us some insight.

20mph over the limit is a safe way to travel on any interstate. The problem is that the government found a great way to raise a ton of revenue! "Hey, let's make the speed limit much lower than the average person would travel and make billions!"
Save the triple digits for the track, everything else is a-ok.

Well, you know 85 mph on interstates in NJ is probably only safe when there are no idiots on the road. With all the cell phone, text messaging, makeup applying, breakfast eating, and just plain careless drivers out there, tragedy is only a swerve away.
Recently our socialist governor's vehicle was in a pretty bad crash.
The estimated speed was 91 mph(granted 26 over, but still in double digits). Pretty catastrophic for him being an unbelted passenger. His driver was most likely trained to travel at those high speeds, and if it weren't for other cars on the road that moved into his lane he would have been ok. At 65 the outcome probably would not have been the same.
Lucky more cars weren't taken out. Things happen fast on the highway.

probably a New York driver that caused the accident!
they don't know how to keep right and pass left.........

Ummm, it wasn't the speed that effected the outcome, but more or less the officer's inability control the SUV accurately.
The black box info is probably laughable. I'd guess that he first did a severe jerk on the wheel (high lateral g-load), a split second later then hit the brakes (forward g-load and brake switch engaged), and the rest was stop, drop tumble and roll from there. The vehicle dynamics was waaaaay offset by driver error. It doesn't take 91 mph to cause that kind of reaction. You can do it at 40mph and cause unpredictable results.
