I did the "commute" from No Jersey to Btown every week for all of last summer, and I tried every which way.
I'm sure someone will tell you their way is better, and it probably is. Good for them, but I finally settled in on:
- Garden State to NY Thruway to the Tappan Zee
- Cross Westchester to the Hutchinson River Parkway to the Merritt
- Merritt to I-91N to I-84E to I-90E.
_____
BTW: I once left my hous at 3am, stopped once to get coffee, and once to gas up, and was at my desk in South Boston at 6:30.

Well, FWIW, that's the route I used driving home from Kerbeck when I bought this beast four years ago. The Tappan Zee was under construction then and probably still is but otherwise that's probably the best route.

If anyone would know, its Tom. He's done that route so much, he sees the road the way his avatar looks right now.

By pass the Merritt? By pass the Merritt? By pass the Merritt? Nuky, don't let Alex hear you say that!!!
Can't you just picture Alex doing triple digits in the tunnel, sticking his head out the window, and screaming as loud as he can for as long as he can??

At this time of the year, 684 sucks. The concrete portions of that road are pot-hole city...or about to become that.
84 west of Hartford can be a nightmare right before rush hour, morning or evening. Tom's route is the one I'd vote for, as 91 takes you and drops you off onto 84 just east of Hartford. I'd just be real careful with your speed on 84 East once you are about 10 miles or so outside of Hartford...the State popo's are out in force on that road with every conceiveable type of unmarked car you can imagine.

Of course it goes without saying, once you arrive safely in Boston, you should always stop by Radius for a nice dinner and a glass or two of wine.
My daughter went to Boston University and we drove there often. I tried several different routesl, but by far the best was the Tappan Zee Bridge to the Saw Mill Parkway to 684 to 84 to the Mass Pike. From the Tappan Zee Bridge, it should take you a little less than three hours to Boston via this route.
There is a big enforcement drive on the highways around Hartford against hand held cellphones, speeding, aggressive driving and probably breathing. Unmarked and unusual cars.

LOL...it's just to bad that I couldn't get up to join you when you were spending all that time in Boston. My niece would have made sure we were treated like royalty.

They gave our group the royal treatment, even without knowing we had a 'connection.'. Great, great place.
Let's get Alex to organize a day trip to Quincy Market.
