Default Experience with enclosed trailers?

I have a C1 and looking into enclosed trailers to haul to and from distant events, and protect from the weather (got caught in the rains at Carlisle, and really tested the new soft top, original windshield wipers and windshield vents! Fortunately all worked!). Any experiences with enclosed trailers? Seems to be quite a variation from all steel to all aluminum, and size and shape. Leaning toward Wells Cargo, 20 ft box, with v-shaped front and hauling capacity around 5k lbs for around $12k. I have no connection with this brand, and know there are a number of makes out there. The all aluminum trailers with accessories can run up to $30k+. Appreciate any advice before I go forward.

I have used only an open trailer with my V8 Explorer. Seemed easy to pull with a Class III hitch and eletronic brakes.

You might want to look into something used because many times you can get something much cheaper and has many upgrades. Here is one that is used from a Vette guy that is getting out of racing:

Here is a post of things you should know about towing (AU N EGL gives good advice):

I only know because I have been shopping around and trying to figure out what to do. I finally decided on a used open trailer only because it should fit in the garage (I am measuring it this week).

But yes the forum is a great place to share ideas....

Thanks for the information. I'm interested and getting more information about the trailer. I've pulled my C1 in a borrowed 20 ft enclosed trailer from Maryland to Carlisle, Pa and back, and over the nice highways all was straightforward (I have electric brakes on the GMC Sierra). Don't know the size of the trailer in the above reference, but I'm finding out.

I'm new to the Forum, but appears to be a great place! Thanks again!

The guy that is selling the above trailer I have heard is a nice guy. I talked to him a few times online, but never met him. He also started his road course training with the same instructor that I use so we have a common bond. I know he advanced to T1 and then this year I saw he was selling his car and everything.

I was going to ask him if he was getting out all together or if he was changing classes....

Bob

Larry,

If you are interested I have an outline of things to look for in a trailer as well as the important options and hitch setup suggestions. It's way too long to include in a response on the Forum but if you send me an e-mail at: richsclassiccorvettes@cox.net I'd be happy to send it to you along with a couple of pictures.

Rich,

Thanks for the offer. Sent e-mail and looking forward to the information. I have received a lot of information and am still working through all the variables in purchasing a trailer.

I've been towing trailers for almost 20 years.
Experience is alway the best teacher.
But, the 20 ft. trailer you are looking at should be fine. most have a 7000# cap. what will you be towing with?
Watch the tongue weight!
Those V front units may sway a bit at speed, I use a square front. I'm towing a 20' Haulmark with a Chevy 2500 HD 6lt auto.
Traven from Ct to Pocono regularly.
Gas milage is not that great though.
Also you will have to figure out all of the other stuff you will have in the trailer (weight). Don't under estimate the load.
Let me know if you need any other info.
