Corvettes are Coming to Hampton, Virginia!

Attention all Corvette fans! Corvettes of all years are coming to Hampton, Virginia this July 21 thru 25. If you love America’s favorite sports car, Corvette, here is your opportunity to see all you could want during the 2013 National Corvette Restorers Society National Convention at the Hampton Roads Convention Center. The convention hall is open to the general public Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday where you can see all the cars on display and visit the vendors in the lobby. A $10 charitable donation is requested for admittance to the hall, though current uniformed members of the military service can enter for free. You can also see the cars on July 21 when 11 separate road tours, emanating from all over the US and Canada, converge on Hampton. The cars will stage at the Hampton Teen Aquatic Center on Butler Farm Road before following a parade route east on Butler Farm Road to south on N Armistead, crossing Mercury Blvd then take Convention Center Blvd and Coliseum Drive to arrive at the HRCC at noon.

Special to this year’s convention is a preview of the all new 2014 Corvette Stingray C7! Also special this year is the Dale Earnhardt 88 National Guard Car, which will be on display the duration on the convention.

Each year the NCRS sponsors one National Convention, eight regional meets, and dozens of local chapter meets for judging and educational purposes. The 1963 model year, and first year of the revolutionary Stingray, is celebrating its 50th year and is the feature car on display at this year’s National Convention. There will also be a number of the rare and race ready 1963 Z06 models on display along with hundreds of all model years from 1953 to 1996. Special to this year’s convention is a sneak preview of a pre-production 2014 Corvette Stingray and the Dale Earnhardt 88 National Guard Car on display the duration of the convention. In addition to the judging activities NCRS members, who have pre-registered for the convention, will attend meetings, seminars, and tour many of the rich historical sites this region has to offer.

Formed in 1974, the National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS) is a non-profit hobby group of 15,729 families dedicated to the restoration, preservation, history and enjoyment of Corvettes made from model years 1953 through 1996. The NCRS has 45 Chapters located throughout the US, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

The NCRS offers services from historical documentation such as, technical manuals, data sheets, technical service bulletins, drawings, assembly/owner’s manuals, books, and hundreds of other related documents and is recognized around the world as THE STANDARD in determining originality. The NCRS judging system is designed to educate each owner about their car, as well as provide recognition for excellence in the areas of restoration, performance, or preservation. These cars are judged not against each other, but against standards that compare the cars to how they were delivered to dealers in the year of production. There are a variety of awards that can be achieved such as flight, performance verification, founders, etc all designed to determine the degree to which the cars have been restored and even awards for rare un-restored original cars. Un-restored cars are important to the history of the Corvette as they help to establish standards for documentation and restoration of all other Corvettes.

Sound interesting? We hope you will come see us during the convention and if you like what you see, consider joining us. You don’t have to currently own a Corvette to join, just the passion that it generates. Need more information about the NCRS? Go to https://www.ncrs.org/ or https://www.ncrs.org/convention/ for more info about this year’s convention. Or just ask any one of the many volunteers wearing red convention shirts; we’ll be glad to help you.
