Default First Time Drag Racing the Z

Long story short, on my second run of the night, the one I hot lapped, while it was still 85* out, I did my best. Managed a 1.888 60' (yes, GY SC's) and a 12.90@ 108. The other 3 clean passes were 2.1 60's and a 13.2 and 2 x 13.3's. I started thinking about what to do to much, and not just doing it. Met a cool group of guys from a club called LG (Looking Glass).

Pretty good times, I think that anytime that you can get a stock Z into the 12's that is good, at this altitude!!

THX all, I was kinda upset that I couldn't duplicate the 12.9 again, all cause I couldn't cut another good 60'. I know the SC's aren't good at all for that, but I did it once so I wanted to do it again!!! I think the track was just to cool to get good enough traction again. I have also heard that speed shifting and the tires breaking loose also slows down your ET (I did this everytime, couldn't break the habbit! and going into both 2nd and 3rd, they did break loose), I wonder just how true that is. Anyway, maybe I will give it another shot before the yrs over.

Joe,
Your short time on the 12.9 run is pretty damned good for the stock tires. What tire pressure were you running and did you do a burnout to heat them up? These cars are not easy to launch with street tires, so great job bro! There are VERY few stock z06's that hit the 12's here at altitude, so great job driving it!
As far as shifting goes, if you don't speed shift it, your et and mph will suffer quite a bit, as you will be out of the power band when you hit the next gear, and you'll start seeing mid 13's and mph's in the 105's or so.
A few of us from here are going to try to get to PMI before they close this season. Once we get the day set, I'll post up and let you know and maybe you can meet us there for a few passes...

Jim

THX.........
so, I guess speed shifting was the better thing to do......ok, I won't stop...... heck, I don't know if I could break the habbit anyway, been doing it for like 6yrs.

I did do a burnout...... well, kinda, I have never done that before, so I wasn't able to hold the car in place, I just did it until I hit the starting point.

Once I got there and got tech'd I lowered the tire pressure to 25psi (car should have definatly been hot enough after a 1 1/2 hr drive to get there).

And I would love to meet up at PMI, hopefully I can hit a 12 there also...... doubt it, traction is a lot worse there.

I do have a video of it, here in a bit I will be trying to edit it and then I will post it up......... just don't laugh too hard at my attempt to burn out.

Joe,
The burnout is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. I'm sure I can help you with that. Traction at PMI can be pretty good if you stay in the groove where there is lots of rubber. Hell, it was sticky enough to snap my left diff output shaft in the stock rear end last time I was there this past spring. You were there that day with your Talon and IIRC, you turned some great times with it.
See you soon hopefully.

Jimbo
