[Denver] - Track day 3/11 at Continental Divide Racepark for Corvette Museum
My dad put together a track day:
Racing to Build is a fun event to raise funds for the National Corvette Museum Building Campaign. This event is Friday afternoon 3/11/2005 at Continental Divide Racepark.
The event is basically an open track afternoon on the 1.6 mile road course at the track. The event is for basically stock Corvettes only though there may be other cars running with us.You must bring a SNELL 95 or later helmet, your car must pass a brief tech inspection, you must have a closed exhaust system that emits less than 92 db as recorded at the track and you will need long pants and closed toe shoes. Groups of 5 or 6 cars will go out on the track at a time for 5 lap stints. The only rules are you must not drive so as to pose a danger to yourself or others, there is no passing in the turns and passing is only permitted on straight aways if motioned by.
The event is about having a good time safely. Anyone black flagged for improper behavior will be asked to leave and their money will not be refunded.
Registration begins at the track at about noon and with a little luck, we should have some cars on the track by about 1:00 PM. The event will go until the track closes about 5:30 PM. The cost is $100 with $90 going to the track and $10 going to the museum building campaign. The track is located at the Mead exit off of I-25 one exit north of the Hwy 66 Longmont exit. The track is basically straight ahead of you at the top of the northbound exit ramp.
Timmy any idea if any other people have pre-registered or how many from his club are planning on going? Just wondering how many times we would be able to get out on the track. And do they rent helmets at the track?
There is no pre-registration. I'm guessing there will be less than 30 cars there because of the cost - though I could be wrong. Run groups will be sized to give every one at least one shot per hour.
They will get all the track time their car is capable of safely running. After 5 laps, their car will need at least half an hour or more to cool down before going out again. They can then jump into the next group out. I'd guess they will have over an hour on the track itself.
There are no helmets for rent at the track. They may be able to borrow helmets for others that are cooling off though.
Also, there is no food or water at the track so they will need to bring that. No alcohol is permitted.

I can check my motorcycle helmets and see if they are ok otherwise I might be able to borrow one from a friend I think he has one that will meet the spec's required. Just let me know.

Call me at 303-594-1972 if you need to, also will try to get up there to watch if I can (timmy is there a fee to watch) I just don't feel comfortable running on the track at the same time as other cars, I don't want to get hit or hit anyone one else if something stupid happens (hey it could be me I'm known to be stupid at times )
Doesn't cost anything to spectate but a donation to the museum fund would be a nice gesture since the whole point of it is to raise some $$ for the museum.
I've REALLY been looking forward to something like this, but will probably have to miss out this time around. The daily driver will be in the shop ($$), and I'd need more time to find a helmet & make sure the car is ready.
This kind of event sounds casual enough for a first-timer. Would that be a good assumption?

yes it would be a good first-timer event. Also, you don't have to push your car all out, you can take it easy to as not to exceed your capabilities, it's meant purely for fun!
I might be there, the engine is out of my vette but my dad said that I could drive his GrandSport if I wanted. If I go, I will have a helmet for others to possibly borrow.
What would the tech inspection entail? I do have a verrrry slow oil leak (about 1-2 drops per week when driven a few times). To this point it's not worth chasing down, but when does it become an issue for track use?
You've got me back on the fence since Friday happens to be a day off.
It will probably go unnoticed, wipe it down. The inspection is to make sure that you have good brakes, ball joints, etc and that you aren't dumping fluids all over the track. Is it the intake manifold that's leaking? LT1/LT4 cars all do it at some point.

I think that's probably it, since I did see some at the rear of the manifold. At the time it didn't look as fresh as what I cleaned from underneath, so I still can't say for sure.
Frank, it looks like I'll be going if I can find a helmet. PM or email me if you find out whether yours will work. Otherwise, I might just go get one tomorrow evening.
I got out of the meetings, but this morning, friggin HR sent an email, they changed the performance evalutions. The same evaluations I already completed for all my people, now I have to redo them all before Tuesday.
Hope you guys have a great time though, the weather should be great.
I will have to wait until the next opportunity, too. Repairs & maintenance on the Acura are going to be twice as expensive as I was hoping for. I'm bummed for now, but look forward to the next cruise/get together.

HR departments across the country are all the same, TJ - they don't contribute a dime to the bottom line, and they screw up other people's track time!!
First off I want to thank Tim Sr. & Tim Jr. for their hospitality. I was able to make it to the track by about 2:30 in the DD and they were gracious enough to lend me a helmet and Tim Jr. took me for a few laps in the GS, man what a blast that car hauls major butt.
Sorry I didn't respond sooner to your message Jamison regarding the helmet but I don't work on Thursday's or Fridays so I seldom even turn on the PC at home and didn't see it till after the fact.

Great to meet you Frank! I had a blast taking you around the track in my dad's car. Hopefully next time I'll be able to drive my car around there. There are supposed to be doing an Autox there in May.
