Ok I have had my C5 for a few months now and I need to get some track time. Any recommendations? I have done SCCA solo 2 stuff in the past (parking lot racing) but didn't enjoy it as much because I didn't end up spending much time actually driving. Anyone have suggestions for a new vette owner in Denver who needs get that vette driving experience safely and legally?
There are two close that I know of, Second Creek Raceway at 88th and Buckley, I think they open in April. The other is Continental Divide Race Park, 25 mi north of Denver (Mead exit).
Second Creek has been open on certain days all winter. Check their website, and better yet, give them a call. You can participate in any test day, it's $65 for a session. (4 hours). Usually Bob will let you go as long as you like though.
It's a TON of fun. Our Vettes have a huge advantage out there. I raced this track in my old AWD Eclipse, and my Vette is way faster with no modifications!

sometimes truth is stranger than fiction...
Experience? 10 autox's? Where did you hear that from?
I've never heard that before. I've never seen anyone's qualifications get checked either.
I've been racing there (non competitively of course) for the last five years. I've taken many newbies out there in the past with no experience.
It's not hard to do, just follow the rules of the track, let the faster guys pass when they need to, and stay in control. And most of all, have fun!
Try going out there one weekend, even if you don't run, just to meet folks and get to know how it works. You won't regret it, everyone is super friendly and willing to help and answer questions.
I was wondering the same thing...Do I need a helmet to be able to race at Second Creek? I am really into drag racing but haven't tried the vette on the twisties yet so I am definitely new at this!
anyone on the track needs a helmet. $60 for about 4 hours. no experience needed. go on a weekday when there isn't a scheduled event and you can have the track mostly to yourself. 10-12 laps and you are going to want to take a rest in the pits because you'll be beat up. after a few hours you'll be done. bring chairs, cooler, snacks, shade if its hot and have fun. also search google and educate yourself on others past experiences and how to setup your car and what to expect. it's a hell of a lot better than driving around a parking lot.
