So, I don't think it broke. I wasn't sure what the bottom of the spring was supposed to connect to, and there was no metal tab there, so i assumed it broke. But then I found the tab on the other side of the garage (ridiculous luck) and it doesn't look broken. So i think I have the parts, just no idea how to reattach them.

I found a thread you posted years back about the wiper arm on a c4, specifically the spring and metal tab flying off when you tried to lift the arm off the windshield. It was like reading a narration of exactly what I did about 7 hours ago.

Anyway, you mention that you figured it out and posted how in another post, but I couldn't find it. Wondering if you remember what you did, because this is the toughest spring of this size I have ever seen and I have no idea how to reattach it.
