The "Big E" was almost a brand new ship back then. I served on a destroyers Buckley DD808 and Sterett DLG31.
Recall doing plane guard for Enterprise up on Yankee Station on a couple of occasions in 1971-72 time frame. Saw her again last year at Newport News Shipyard being decommissioned after 50 years of service. Sad to see her go. Also saw the new Enterprise in early stages on construction. The great ship's name lives on!!
