    Peter,

I had to cut this message into two parts. Below is the final part.

Just thinking how could the frame be so bad as to be not repairable and the birdcage not?

At the very least, I'd get a second or even third opinion on your frame from someone who understands Corvettes.

Regardless of which way you go, you gotta keep those chrome bumpers on the road!

Hope this has helped a little.

    Hey Peter,

I know how you feel, really I do. I'm in the process right now of fixing up rust issues with my 64. Frame AND birdcage. It never crossed my mind to get a new 'old' chassis. One of the reasons I'm in this hobby is to get my hands dirty. I've already spent a lot of hours labour on this beast and this restoration will take two years. I love the challenge and the learning process. When I'm done, it'll be right back on the 1/8th mile track. So you can see, I'm not a NCRS type of guy.

Having said that, if I were to be shopping for a NEW chassis, I would be going to a new type of frame and set it up with C4or5 suspension. The other road to check out would be wrecked C3s here in Oz. You never know they may be out there. You could check out the Corvette forum here in Oz or even contact the Corvette Clubs throughout the country.

Just for me, I can't see the value in paying out 15k for an old style frame.

    Cheers.

    Bud.

    Hello Bud

I'm new to the forum, and actually i'm in Barwon Heads which is sort of closer to you. Anyway i posted some questions on the forum about a 71 that i just bought, the prognosis from the mechanic is that it's chassis is stuffed, rusted and needs replacing which i'm happy to do but i'm trying to get some experienced advice about the best way to go about it.

I've found a joint in the US that makes refurbished and replicated rolling chassis but these are like $15K landed in Australia but i guess then i know everything is tip top and it will reduce the amount of time i need to pay someone to rebuild it as this is not something i could do.

Anyway maybe you might be able to point me in the right direction?

Love your car by the way

    Cheers

    Peter

Hey Snagz (love that name!) Any help we can provide is welcome. But being in WA is going to make it hard to drop in and spin a spanner. Still, nice to know others have a passion for these cars.
