    Hello Shane,
You caught me just as I'm about to leave on vacation but I'll give you a quick reply. I only worked for a dealer, not GM, so my resources were limited to the dealer VIS system. It sounds like you may already have checked the service history on your car. I'm interested in the pilot cars but have no way of researching them other than all the choices in the VIS. On my old VIS sheets that I printed out there are 10 choices across the top of the page that you can click on and print out. Any GM service person can do this but they don't usually go into all the choices. If you can find a patient service guy have him print out all of the choices: Home - Summary - Claim History - Vehicle build - Vehicle Component - Delivery Information - Dealer Information - Service Contract - Warranty Block - Branded Title. (I'm guessing the system hasn't changed recently). There will be some duplication but this will give a LOT of info on the car. I was able to research all the early cars because the VIS system only needs the last 8 numbers of the vin. I just entered "65100001" etc, on up. Have you checked the engine code on the tag hidden behind the alternator? There's a link on the Forum to decode it to determine the engine build date. If it's later than 5/05 it would indicate a replacement engine. The WD1 cars that got new engines were sublet to Roush Engineering, not a dealer. I no longer work for a dealer so it's now hard for me to do research. Congratulations on getting 00084, DSOM is my favorite color.
    Regards, Richard

    Hi ZL-1.
Other CF members have noted that I needed to contact you, with regard to WD1, "preproduction", "pilot" Z06's. I recently purchased an 06 with VIN 00084, build date 5/20/05, delivery to "007-GM Company Car", 5/23/05, WD1, in DSOM. I want to know a source for information about pilot cars such as mine. I would like to have as much documentation as possible relating to my car. My understanding is that my car was used for media purposes. Would you have any suggestions for where I might go to get substantiated documentation i.e. actual media coverage, etc.? I apologize in advance if this sound pompous, tedious or just plain ridiculous. I just would like to know as much about the cars' history as possible.
    Thanks,
    Shane
