C4 Gathering registration is open but the registering website has crashed, been down since 0800. They are offering a kart enduro race on Thursday afternoon and I just talked with a girl at MSP about it, sounds like a blast. I'm signing up for both. Are ya'll planning on staying till the weekend, I'll probably split Saturday morning, not much going on Saturday.

    Hey Brother!

I don't think I'll be able to get time off for the gathering this year...We're short staffed at the department. I know the gathering is Thurs, Fri, and Sat. I wanted to try to cruise up on Thursday and hang out for a little bit. I look forward to hopefully seeing you guys soon! Stay safe and enjoy the weekend...

    Paul,
Wondering where you got those great-looking valve-covers that you show on your avatar!? The ones on my '89 are so "bronzed" (rusty-looking) that I'd really like to replace them

Hey Paul. I saw that you know quite alot about c4's. I am thinking about buying a 92 c4, but I have a few questions about it before I buy . On the message board ASR,ABS and INFL Rest lights are on. This must be commomn because I have looked at 3 others with the same code. Could you tell me what should I expect for repair and cost. I sure would appreciate the info. Thanks, Bruce

I think I saw where you found the one you were needing. That be GOOD, cuz as you now know, the cover and the head are machined together as a unit - no two head/covers will match perfectly unless they were.

If the cover was off for an extended period of time, you'll want to plug the drain holes in the head and use some light oil like WD-40 and let it soak to dissolve any goo so it can be sopped up with paper towels. Use compressed air, if available, to blow it out to get it as clean as possible. Then, you might want to pour a little fresh motor oil on the cams and lifters and bearings and chains, refill or replace and fill the oil filter with fresh oil and with ALL the plugs out, roll the motor over to lube the exposed cams/lifters before installing the cover. (predicated on the assumption that neither the cam lobs nor the lifters have anything more than a film of rust - thin enough to be rubbed off with your dry finger. Otherwise, further assessment is called for before firing the motor.)

Because the cover is part of the bearing surface for the cams, there is no gasket between the cover and the head. Instead, there is an anaerobic sealer (available from Jerry's Gaskets) that is used to seal the cover/head joint. (And, while you have the cover off, ask Jerry for some new O-ring seals for the cam cover that keep oil from getting into the spark plug well.)

Then you'll prolly want to run some inexpensive oil in it for the first start-up, and get it good and warmed up before changing it for the "good stuff". (I used Castrol "Extended Mileage" 10W 30 to flush mine.) Marc Haibeck is a renown guru and professional ZR-1 mechanic, and he recommends the Amsoil AMO 10W-40 synthetic which contains the same level of ZDDP recommended for the LT5 at the time it was produced. I use the AMO.

Good luck. Any questions, fire away!

You'll need to use a razor blade and clean the joint surfaces of both the cover and the head, and then with a rag and some brake cleaner you'll need to scrub any residual sealant off the joints.

Faulty heater core, remember we own 21 year old Vettes. Typical wear and tear. you can bypass the core for now and fix it later. It's time to drive! I love our cruisinarts. When it's time for tires I'm keeping the wheels. What year is your wifes C3? I love Stingrays and drove a 71 red/red 454 vert and just loved it. I about traded my 84 for a yellow 80 that's at Classic Auto in Bloomington, but they're asking too much. More than my 90 that I bought a couple weeks later, and that was last year.

I'm hoping to get my Vette out of storage next Tuesday depending on the weather. I'm ready to cruise!
