Tom .. we got this message on the Dallas Classic Chevy email account .. can you reach out to Jim and help him? Thanks!! David GravesI read the pdf file CONVERTING NON POSI REAR END TO POSI from Mr. Tom Parsons and I would like to contact him. I’m not sure if he is connected with Dallas Classic Chevy, but his document was great! Please let me know if Mr. Parsons can be contacted. Or, feel free to forward this message to him. I have a 59 Corvette that I would like to apply the Posi feature into but I would keep the original differential housing with the car.

    Thank you.

With those early 3sp shifters, you just have to be very deliberate about going from 1st to 2nd. Not much that can be done do prevent hitting reverse.

The only thing that comes to mind about the wire that is hanging down, is that it is for the backup light switch (if your car has backup lights).

Hi dz i see you have helped alot of people on here,i like to ask you a question i bought a 66 vette which has a 350 and a 3 speed transmission.my shifter has no safety mechanism and can be easily shifted into reverse thinking its first gear.i don;t know if this is normal and i am too embarassed to ask the question on the forum.reverse is smack on top of 1st gear in a straight line,i also ooked underneath at the tranny and i see a small piece of hanging wire that seems to attach to the rods, have you ever seen this thanks for now

    Tom,
At my age, looking at your car, its just about the "perfect Corvette"....love it! Z000006 has one for sale, '57 fuelie, located in my neck of the woods, Florida. Question to you, do you have any knowledge of this car, I'm somewhat afraid of fuel units, just not familiar with them, and the need for what gas that it might need...........any insights you can give me would be appreciated, thank you...............Norm

    Tom,

Good morning. I have a dilemma and I am hoping you have the answer I need. I am rebuilding a '61 vette that my Dad gave me 12 years ago and I am close to being done. I went to install the starter and realized that I am using the wrong bellhousing for a 61. I have a 621 housing installed with the original 168 tooth flywheel. I have since learned that I should have a 553 housing. When my Dad gave me the car, that is the bellhousing he gave me. The obvious choice is to install the correct bellhousing, but as the motor and trans are already installed and cheapest decent quality 553 out there is about $500, I'm hoping there is a block mounted started that can be used until I get the right bellhousing. I am surprising my Dad by giving him the car back next month (July 21st) so I am hoping to get it started as quickly as I can. Any advice you can offer would be appreciated. The motor I am using ( until the original is rebuilt) is a 350, casting 3970010.

    Thanks,

    Jim

I do not rebuild the 53-55 rears. Except for the pinion gear (it's an open drive shaft style), these rears are a copy of the 49-54 pass car rears. Parts are basically impossible to find for them and I just do not want to spend the time nor hassle trying to get one put together. Sorry, I know that is not what you wanted to know.

Tom, Do you have experience rebuilding 53-55 differential. I'm ready to reassemble mine, but am not sure how difficult this will be. Others have told me to take it to an expert, but they do not have experience in rebuilding these. Thanks. Keith

me too. I have some ideas, including helicoil. just here picking brains of the experienced people. I have a gear reduction in it now. I am trying to restore it to perfect and am making good ground. I had the head welded and I retapped the intake hole and had success. I don't want to pull the motor so I was looking for an easier alternative. I still think I can make it work.
    thanks
    Charlie
