Dear Jim, I am working tor restore a 69 tilt? tele column. My question to you is on the lower horn contact. It seems that the original part has no L shaped locking slot for the brush pin. all aftermarket "bedspring" contacts have this slot. It seems NOS "bedspring contacts Part # 3949105 has no slot. Where these early 69's different? I was able to make the horn work with new parts. But it seems like the original parts were like the contact on the turn signal switch. Sorry I can't post pics here. I put this up on the forum but no one had heard of this before. I also fount the insulator glued to the top of the locking plate just as described in your papers. On my '72 with tt steering column:

Can you please tell me if there is something on the lock cylinder that pushes the rod up that engages the lock plate? Turning of the lock cylinder does move the rod up when the car is shut off, but not enough to engage the lock ring. Also, is the length of that rod the same on standard columns? I am about to fashion a shim to get the lock plate to move farther down so that the rod is effective but don't really want to Bubba, especially if I am overlooking something. Thanks for reading and pondering this.

Sir, I need help. I have a 76 with non tilt/tele and I'm replacing the original steering wheel with a wheel from Corvette America part #X2530, I purchased the steering conversion parts listed by Corvette Central for the conversion. My problem is the horn retainer is not making contact with the horn brush, therefore the horn does not work when the horn button is pushed. Thank you for the assistance

Hi Jim, my name is Kent. I have a '76 Corvette with a steering column that needs rebuilt. It is currently in a disassembled state. It appears you are the resident expert here! I was wondering if you had a link to instructions for reassembly. When I bought the car, the key was stuck permanently in the ignition switch. A friend of mine thought he could replace the switch so he disassembled the column but when he put in the new ignition it behaved the exact same way, in terms of not releasing the key. It looks like someone was already in there before my friend because the button for the hazard lights was missing. At this point I don't even care as much about the key issue or the hazard lights, I'd like to at least get it back to where it was. I did try to take pictures as we disassembled it, but my phone memory card corrupted, so I don't even have those anymore. You can see the kind of luck I'm having with this. Any help would be incredibly appreciated! Thanks!

ah ha,
It looks like I lost the locking rod from the center of the column ?
My column is from a 74. I stuck a phillips head down the shaft & it measured 4.75" before it bottomed out ?
Do you know where I can get a replacement ?

For whatever reason my key will come out of the ignition in every position. Otherwise it locks and starts the car like it's supposed to. Is this normal operation or is my ignition tumbler bad?
