Default Is GM Giving Corvette Features to Chevy SS?

I don't know what to make of this. Is this good or bad for Corvette when when sedans like 2015 Chevy SS get more corvette-like features?

The 2014 Chevrolet SS performance sedan has been marketed by General Motors as a 4-door Corvette and when the 2015 SS models begin arriving in dealerships later this year, they could feature a pair of new features to back up the Corvette relation of this full sized sedan.

What if this somewhat devalues Corvette?

It's still a 4 door sedan.

It is. But recently a Chinese company revealed a cheap copy of Ford's F150 and sold it for 16,000. Guess what. They sold 10,000 copies.

Yup, and they gave Corvette features to the Z28 Camaro too.

It's all good!

Because features are not exclusive to Corvette anymore.

I think having some Corvette features on the SS is good for the SS and will make no difference to the Corvette sales or value. After all, a Corvette is a Corvette and the SS isn't. It's nice but when I shopped for my C6 I didn't look at 4 door cars or Camaros or Mustangs, etc, etc.

Giving Corvette features to the SS has been good for SS sales to Corvette owners. Several members here have purchased an SS due to that fact. Also, the SS was never intended by GM to be a high volume item. They publicized that selling 3,000 units a year would be their goal. With the first year SS introduction they are on track to deliver around 3,600 this model year.

Given the Corvette is exceeding all sales expectations by a wide margin, I expect they will sell more than ten times more Corvettes than SS models this year. Also, part of the exclusivity of the SS is due to the high price. With the gas guzzler tax, it's over $45,000 dollars. Most people balk at spending that kind of money for a Chevrolet sedan priced in the BMW, Mercedes, etc, range.

At the end of the day though, it's a five seat sedan - I just don't see that devaluing or endangering the status of the Corvette in any way. I test drove on though, it was too cool hearing the LS3 growl I am accustomed too.

Corvette has always been GM's flagship innovator and all the latest bells & whistles eventually trickle down to the lower end products. Everybody has disk and anti-lock brakes now and plastic bumpers. Aluminum is working it's way into suspension parts too. It all gets used as technology improves and progresses.

Well, we all know that the 7speed manual will eventually be in the Camaro - so putting it in another model is no big deal.

Mag ride is the same deal - Camaro already has it, not to mention that mag ride came from Cadillac.

I think the original post is moot.

I look at it this way::
given that it cost a lot to develop a concert to the point it is production worthy
The more units produced of the concept, the lower the price
The more developments get done, so the state of the art improves at a faster rate,
And the healthier GM will be.

ALL at the SAME time!

Features from Cadillac & Corvette should trickle down to the other vehicles.
Many of those same features should then become standard on Caddies and Vettes as newer features are added.
