I used the carfax when I purchased my car. The cost is $20 for a single request. It's a peace of mind, It told me when the car was first registered, what maintenance was done at dealer and milage at that time. It tells you how many owners the car had. what cities it was registered in. It shows you if the car was ever accidented, flood damaged, wrecked,, etc. Just have to go onto their website and complete the form. You will have to have the VIN of whatever car you want to do a search on. I was satified with it..

I saw this link on another forum. It explains what Carfax does and has a good list of what information they don't have.
