Default premium gas

In view of the current high gas prices, especially where I live in California, will it ruin my car if I do not use premium gas?

High test is expencive BUT DETINATION is more expencive if you burn pistons with regular.

Good morning,

I have always recommended that owners follow the guidelines printed in their owner's manuals. The engineers have designed new vehicles to perform at a specific level and to attain a specific MPG. Damage caused by using the wrong fuel or by lack of maintenance will not be covered by the warranty and in the long run will cost much more than paying the price up front.

Isn't a C6 worth premium fuel? I think so.

GM factory fills each and every gas vehicle it builds with unleaded regular and all there fleet vehicles get regular. If driven in normal conditions the PCM & knock sensor will just retard timing. When the weather is cold below 60 deg there is none or little retard in timing.
In the owners manual of my 94 ZR-1, 01 C5 & 04 Monti Carlo SS Supercharged it says "Quote" use 91 octane but you can use mid or regular BUT performance will be reduced, if spark knock occurs increase octane but if 91 dosent eliminate knock vehicle needs to be serviced by your dealer.

C4's, C5's and C6's can safely use regular unleaded fuel. It's in the owner's manual.

Here's the Owners Manual informaton about the fuel from page 5-5.
Fuel
Use of the recommended fuel is an important part of the
proper maintenance of your vehicle.
Gasoline Octane
Use premium unleaded gasoline with a posted octane of
91 or higher for best performance. You may also use
middle grade or regular unleaded gasoline rated at 87
octane or higher, but your vehicle’s acceleration may be
slightly reduced. If the octane is less than 87, you may
get a heavy knocking noise when you drive. If this occurs,
use a gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher as soon as
possible. Otherwise, you might damage your engine.
Gasoline Specifications
It is recommended that gasoline meet specifications
which were developed by automobile manufacturers
around the world and contained in the World-Wide Fuel
Charter which is available from the Alliance of Automobile
Manufacturers at www.autoalliance.org/fuel_charter.htm.
Gasoline meeting these specifications could provide
improved driveability and emission control system
performance compared to other gasoline.
California Fuel
If your vehicle is certified to meet California Emission
Standards (see the underhood emission control label), it
is designed to operate on fuels that meet California
specifications. If this fuel is not available in states
adopting California emissions standards, your vehicle
will operate satisfactorily on fuels meeting federal
specifications, but emission control system performance
may be affected. The malfunction indicator lamp may
turn on and your vehicle may fail a smog-check test. See
Malfunction Indicator Lamp on page 3-41. If this
occurs, return to your authorized GM dealer for
diagnosis. If it is determined that the condition is caused
by the type of fuel used, repairs may not be covered
by your warranty.

Good luck!

Hopefully your were kidding. If the price of gas worries you then you should drive less but use the good stuff. I guess you will have more time to Zaino the car/

Figuring a difference of 20 cents per gallon between regular nad premium, you would only be saving $2-$3 a a tankful. Not worth it to me.

My wife used regular in her C5 and you could tell the difference. I agree premium is the only way to go. I use premium in all my classics.
