Default GMPP On New Car Doesn't Make Sense

Tell me what I'm missing: I was going to purchase GMPP on the C6 coupe I'm picking up Tuesday. But when I got the info, I see that it's the same price if I buy it during the first 12 months (and under 12,000 mis.), yet the coverage starts from when I buy the policy.

So if I wait 11 months and buy a 60-month policy, my coverage will not only start from that date but from that mileage.

The only risk I see is if the cost of the GMPP increases. But even if I believe it will, the current price of the GMPP is locked in until Oct. 1 (at least with the dealer where I got my quote, not sure about all dealers). So at the very least I'm taking absolutely NO risk by waiting 5 months--and I gain time and mileage on my Major Guard.

So once again, what am I missing?

I see this issue the exact same way, so Dennis or Ken what is the advantage of getting the plan at purchase vs just before 12/12,000 runs out?

Good Monday morning,

You are correct: GM now defines “new” as cars and trucks that are less than one year old and have less than 12,000 miles!! Therefore, if you purchase the plan during the first year of ownership AND with an odometer less than 12000 miles, you are entitled to the new car pricing which is significantly less than if you wait and purchase the plan under the used car pricing.

BE AWARE: GM does raise the price each year on October 1 AND further GM reserves the right to raise prices at any time during the year.

Benefits of having the GM Protection Plan during the base warranty period:

I am often times asked why one should purchase the GM Protection Plan before the base warranty expires so I thought it would be beneficial to all if I published a list of some of the benefits.

* The price increases annually so waiting will without a doubt cost more.
* The price increases as miles accumulate.
* GMPP is honored at all GM dealerships versus the base warranty which is only honored at Chevrolet dealerships.
* GMPP covers a rental car if your vehicle needs 2.0 labor hours or more of repair versus the base warranty which only covers a rental if your car is disabled, in the dealership all day and then overnight.
* GMPP covers items that break or wear out versus the base warranty which only covers items that fail due to a quality or workmanship issue.

Please let us know if you have any other questions, AND thanks for your business!!

I appreciate you getting back to me and explaining this. I think I'll wait at least until the end of September to buy my GMPP. But I did get your rates and I'm sure I'll be getting back to you.
