Anyone know whether or not a 6-speed automatic will be offered on 2006 models?
I'm ready to order my very first Corvette and am struggling over which transmission to order. I've ruled out the current 4-speed automatic. While the 6-speed manual would obviously be a kick at first, I'm kind of worried that after awhile I'd find it to be a nuisance in NorCal traffic. (Anyone here have any thoughts on that?) If there will be a 6-speed auto for 2006, I'd likely order one; if not, I'm leaning toward trying to get a late-build 2005 with the 6-speed manual. I'd appreciate any info you might have. Thanks.
BTW, according to the rumor mill, if there is indeed a 6-speed auto for 2006 it will have shift paddles on the steering wheel. Has anyone else heard this?

I'd like a paddle shifter if they build one but I think it will be a 6 speed.

Think it would be a shame for Corvette to do a paddle shift automatic vs. a paddle shift SMG. A paddle shiffing manual would put the transmission in the same class as Porsche, BMW, Ferrari etc. Quite different from a paddle automatic.
Sources on the Corvette Brand Team have indicated that at some future time a 6 Speed Automatic will be available to order. This transmission will NOT be available at the start of 2006 production in late September.

For those of us that have been panting for the new automatic that helps a bit. I have had too many GM cars with the four speed auto so the 6-speed makes the jump back to a Corvette that much more special. The 4-speed just reminds me of my last Camaro.
