From Austin, TX to San Diego, CA I'm a new owner of a Z06
Hello everyone. I made the longest drive in my life in a newly acquired 2012 Z06 Centennial edition Corvette. The drive in this beast was amazing and the 7.0L surprised me! Definitely a dramatic difference from my 97 4.6L Mustang Convertible. Lol
I enjoyed testing out the Corvettes capabilities and now rest assured this car handled well over the course of the (approximate) 1,300 mile drive.
We flew in on Southwest Airlines. Ubered from the airport to the dealership, that was an odd experience by the way. I was delayed in my departure back to San Diego due to dealership dialog of course so hit the road around 1700 hours Austin time. Drove till about 0030 hours and stopped in Van Horn to sleep about 5 hours. Woke up and continued for the remainder of the trip.
I love the get up and go. 120mph came with ease. Passing trailers on a two lane highway was an easy task. Best part was swerving out of the way of an oncoming tire at the New Mexico border and finding out how glued to the road this vehicle is.
So now I have a dirty dusty proven Z06 in my apartment parking space and I couldn't be more content I did what so many few will do.
Oh I also met a Camaro SS driver who did the same thing but from Houston. After seeing each other at rest stops and gas stations for the span of about 600 miles we finally exchanged some words.
Well thats my experience with a newly purchased Z06 i hope to meet some of you and gain some knowledge for this specific vehicle. Totally different than a '11 silverado and my '97 Mustang GT.

Welcome to the Forum, and congratulations on your C6 Z06!
I agree with Jeff T; your drive home was a great way to get to know your car!

You have described a Vette perfectly.
It is first and foremost a road car. It loves to be out and running.
Thing will cruise on a highway for as long as you can stay awake and you won't get out tired and cramped.
Dusty and dirty. That's how it should be.
You found the fun!!!

Thank you all who have commented and appreciated the story telling. Here is a picture of the beast, cleaned but not detailed; next to my 4.6L convertible
