Default Close to lifelong dream: Hello!

Hey Guys,

I've been a car guy all my life. I owned ~15 cars by the time I was 25. My first was a 1978 MGB and I've had just about everything in-between: 1978 Trans AM, 1986 Z28 (built 420hp Edelbrock Performer Package 350 for this car), 1976 Porsche 914, 2005 and 2008 Mustang GTs and many many more.

I'm very close to realizing my lifelong dream of owning a Corvette. Limited budget (Navy vet), kids, marriage, house, career, have always stood between me and this car. In a few weeks I'll be ready though. I've been saving for a very long time to do this.

Still have little kids at home so I'll have to keep my F150 as the primary vehicle which puts the C6/C7 out of reach; however, after researching and working out a budget I think I'll be quite happy with a C5. I'll be looking for a lower mileage car (~40k or less) in the $18-$23k range. Anything I don't spend purchasing the car can be spent on upgrading it. It doesn't look like a Z06 will be out of reach at that price. I really don't want anything that's been heavily modified--I'd prefer stock internals. I also don't need or care about a 500+ HP beast. Just a good, clean, reliable, car with minimal "fix-up" requirements will be ideal. Also prefer a vert over coupe.

While I live in Arizona, I'm willing to get on a plane and drive it back from just about anywhere in the U.S. although something west of a line between PA and Central Florida would be preferable.

Anyway, just wanted to say hello everybody. Heading back to the FS forum to see what's trending .

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the welcome. I pulled the trigger today. It's on the other side of the country, so I can't go get it until end of next week. Done deal though.
2003 Vert, Black exterior, Oak interior, HUD, Memory seat. 16k miles.

The best part is I'll drive it back after stopping to pick up my oldest son 5 hours into the trip. So we'll have a Great American Father/Son road trip.

Can't wait,

Sleepless in AZ

Congratulations on getting your ride and then getting to take a long ride in it.

Great color combination. Got a buddy here with a C5 in same colors. Looks great!

Sitting on the plane and ready to get this bus in the air. Should be driving my new car in about 12 hours. The final 12 hours of a 30 year wait.
