Default Proud New 1974 Stingray Owner

Hello everyone!

This weekend I finally ended my search for a 1974, 4 speed, corvette stingray. I bought her for a steal and she managed to make a 3 hour drive back to NC. The exterior needs paint badly and the interior is not terrible, but also not in the best of shape. I know it is going to be a big project, but that is exactly what I want. I had a 1994 miata as my first project/learning car and after I finished her, felt ready for this.

I guess a little about me.... I am studying to be a Mechanical Engineer and will pursue grad school within the next year. Taking things apart and figuring out how they work is my game.

Now the real questions. I am figuring out my plan of attack for "Victoria". I was able to drive her without running hot, but the water temp gauge did like to climb right up to the edge of the red and stay there. But after a stop at a light or for food, the gauge would sit right at about 220 and stay there for like 20-30 min while driving 60 mph. I was going to flush the cooling system and see if that does anything. Open of the valve cover after draining the oil and see how they look to get an idea of the engine condition. Change the tranny fluid and then see how she runs. Maybe also put in a new thermostat. Thoughts? I always welcome suggestions and knowledge on the subject!

Again, glad to finally be able to say I am a Stingray owner and hope to be able to contribute to the forum!

I forgot to add a picture of the engine. Hopefully it loads.

Default Welcome & congrats

C3 forum is the place to go for the answers. Tech & discussion. Also check out Paint/Body under General Corvette Forum. Watch those chemicals when paint stripping.

www.carlisleevents.com is the place to go in Aug.

Enjoy that 74 M4. I've enjoyed mine.
