Default I have potential buyer from Australia

I have a buyer from Australia who wishes to purchase our vette. At first I was sure it was some sort of scam because he initially e-mailed me. Then I emailed him back and he called me.
So far twice and gave me his number in Melbourne, which I called via the operator and he answered. He is definetly interested in the car but I am still caucious. I told him we wouldn't feel comfortable doing anything like this unless it were done by both our banks via some sort of wire transfer.. He offered to deposit $1,000 into our account as earnest money and told me our bank manager could check funds and his account number from there on. He says he would like the vin# which is in the ad and a copy of the title to show it is clear because Australia is very picky about shipping. What do you think? Anyone had anything like this? What is the best way to get payment. I want to protect us as well as him.

I know there are some people from Australia that post on the forum fairly routinely, Dingo comes to mind. They may be able to give you some insight. I would post your question on a couple of the generation specific forums ie the C6 forum as well as CFOT. Good luck with the sale.

Welcome and good luck with the sale! Remember, a ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! I'm sure this guy is honest, but you can't afford to take any chances.

Welcome to the forum.

I have nothing of value in reference to your question, except to say I hope it works out well for you. I am slightly suspicious.

Good luck.

Jack.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM - I sold a HD Classic through my bank in a wire transfer. I would get him to deposit the $1,000, get your bank to verifty the money is in your account. You might even set up a seperate account just for this process then proceed with another bank transfer of the actual selling price, again get your bank to verify the money is in your account. Once you get confirmation of the dollars in your account you can proceed with the shipping and transfer of title.
Good luck on your sale.
