Hello everyone , I'm Tommy from St. Louis and i've just got ahold of a 69 stingray . It has 46000 miles on it , it was my mothers and has been garaged since the late 80's. It had been completly restored to original in the early 80's . This car has been garaged most of my life , for the last 25ish years it has been a shelf for boxes of junk in my fathers garage. It's been sitting so long the tires have actually dry rotted. I'm not 100% sure but i think before it was garaged last it was run dry of gas and oil taken out. At a glance it looks as if a couple sets of tires and a new paint job and its back to original. BUT what sort of damage should i expect from a motor that has been sitting dormant for so long? What if it wasnt drained of oil, will the engine need to be dismantled and cleaned? would i need a new fuel tank? If it had been drained will i be able to put gas and oil in it and try to get it to fire up ? would that not be a very wise move at all? As i am sure you have gathered by now i dont have a clue about fixing cars myself. Any advice i could gather from some of you fine people would be appreciated. This car has been in my family since 1969 i would never sell it but i would like to get it running again.
Welcome to the Forum!!!!!!!!! Sounds like a wonderful car with only your family's history behind it. Well worth restoring and keeping stock IMO. Best of luck and enjoy the car and the Forums.
I recommend you head over to the C3 General Forum (1968-1982) where the members will help you out with advice.
