Default better luck this time?

Looking to get back into a vette after 37 years. When I was a young airman in 73' stationed at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas I bought a 66' red coupe, 327/365 HP for $3,300.00. I remember taking it for a test drive down N. Las Vegas Blvd with the owner. The speed limit was 45 and he told me to "get on it!" I told him I didn't need a ticket, so he whips out his badge and told me not to worry about it since he's a cop and they all know his car! So off I go at a much higher speed. Anyway, to make a long story short, after some four months it was stolen from the barracks parking lot. I recall thinking I heard it start in the middle of the night but since I had one too many the prior evening I just dozed back off. Around 10 AM when I got up, went outside and damn it, I wasn't dreaming! A couple months later I was on my way to Thailand and that was the end of my affair with the corvette. Now, my kids grown up, I'm retired to Florida and I'm going to find me another corvette! I want a C2 but may consider the C1 if price is right. Whatever I get will be red and 40k or less because I'm not a rich guy. Anyway, glad to join you folks and I'm looking all around for my special corvette. Say, who has driven say a 61 or 62 and 65/66? How do they compare?

Welcome to the Forum!!!!!!!!!!! IMO there's a pretty big difference between a C1 and C2 with the C2 being much nicer, more room and comfort, better driving feel, independent suspension, etc. Depends what you want, what you are looking for in the car. Best of luck. Enjoy the Forums.

Welcome to the forum. You're going to love it here! By the way, I was just reading a story today about how the Nellis instructor pilots used to take the new students on the ride of their life "through" the Grand Canyon.

I never did that but I got a hop from Nellis to Langley AFB on an old Tristar Constellation a general's plane and we flew just above the canyon! That was a flight I'll never forget
