Default New Guy looking at C6s.

Hey there,

I'm new to the boards. I have a 6spd 00 Camaro SS. I'm selling the car late winter early spring and using the money as a down payment for an LS2 or C5 Z06. WISH I could afford an LS3 but it's just too expensive. I don't want that kind of debt right off the bat at my age. But some debt is ok, after all it is a vette.

Anyhow I'm going nuts over here because some people tell me the C5Z06 is a better car over the LS2 C6, that it's faster. Then others say the opposite and that the C6 also corners better. Personally I prefer the look of the C6 over the C5 anyhow. And I see C5s really dropping in price. I think that could really hurt the resale value, tho I doubt I'd ever sell a car like this. I've wanted one of these cars ever since I could remember.

Would anyone be able to point me to a sticky on this topic? C5Z vs LS2 C6? Even if the C5Z is faster stock, I've never left a car stock, so which one takes better to mods?

Here's just a few pics of the SS btw.

Welcome aboard and good luck in your search for a Corvette. You should check out the C5 & C6 Sections below as there is a wealth of information contained there.

Welcome to the forum! I would research the C5 and C6 forums and see if anyone has had or currently has both - they should be able to tell you about mods, performance, etc. Good luck with your search.

Welcome to the Forum I do not know about the C5, but I really enjoyed my C6 Vert. In third gear, with paddle shift, I could still make the rear tires chirp. According to the HUD Gravetometer (sp?) it would really go through corners hard. Before the black and whites took over Pacific Coast Highway, each day was an adventure.

Welcome to the Forum!!!!!!!!!!! Best of luck and enjoy the Forums.

There are many members in C6 General who have had, or still have, a C5 Z06 and now have a C6.

The C5 Z vs C6 is an often asked and discussed topic in C6 General. There are many threads if you are willing to do a little work in "Search". I would do it for you but the Forum software doesn't support linking a search results page.
Click on "Search" in the red menu bar up top. Click on "Advanced Search". At the top left of the form in "Search by Keyword" enter these search words exactly; ""C5 Z06""; including the double quotes. In the drop down list under that click on "Search Titles Only". In the "Search in Forum(s)" list at the lower right click on "C6 Corvette General Discussion". Then click the "Search Now" button. You should get about 100+ hits, not all will be what you are looking for but you can tell by the thread titles which ones are about the comparison you are interested in.

Have fun reading.

Welcome!

Look around for that LS3...they're out there, and pretty affordable if you look in the right places. I searched and test drove different cars for a couple months before I found one that hit all the right buttons (price vs performance vs options vs mileage)

I got an 08 LS3/A6 for about what 05's/06's are going for with the same (or more) miles. I bought one of the Hertz ZHZ C6's. And while some vette guys sneer and laugh at them, when that happens, I just look at my certification test results, my bank statement, and remind myself that they're the only current used car that's going UP in value.
Try this route if an LS3 is what you REALLY want. But DO be careful. Yes, they were rentals. And yes, many were abused. But if you find a good one, you'll be enormously happy with it.
Just make sure you get it thoroughly checked first. I got a GM certification on mine as well as a battery of other tests that the dealer doesn't perform as part of a certification inspection. My car has 23K on the clock and the tech and reps both said it's in absolutely perfect mechanical condition.
Plus if you buy it directly from Hertz, all the factory warranties transfer, you get satellite radio subscription for the rest of the year, 3 days of free rentals, and a 1 year of their membership for discounts.

just my .02. Good luck in your LS3 hunt.

Thanks for the advice man, definitely appreciated. Yeah the original plan started out looking for a black m6 LS3 vette and as I kept searching it got ugly haha. I did find one just perfect for me for 29k, but I haven't even sold the SS yet, go figure. Will do though, if I end up with an LS2 (long as I get that Z51 pacakge) I'll be just as happy. Definitely not ruling the LS3 out, I definitely have the patience to wait it out.

Gotta say guys great atmosphere over here, liking this place. LOADS of info as well.
