Hello, guys (and gals?). In November '08, I bought my first used car, a '65 Red Coupe with the 327/365 hp engine. I did this as a tribute to my father, who passed away last July. Dad once owned a new Nassau Blue '66 427 Coupe when I was in high school and the image of my dad with this car has been with me all these years. Dad let me drive my dates to the high school and college proms in this Corvette, even though he had to sign a form saying that his insurance coverage did not include teenage drivers. My fondest school boy memories are of driving that torque monster!
I have always been a car nut and a loyal GM buyer. One of my past cars was an '87 Buick Grand National and I am still the original owner of a '75-1/2 Chevy Cosworth and a '99 Cadillac STS (all three are black cars). The '65 Coupe has always been my DREAM CAR and I am enjoying every moment with it!
I have been reading the threads about percieved highway (only) "overheating". There is some GREAT advice! My car experiences this on warm days, but I have been told that even 210-220 degrees indicated on the gauge is no cause for alarm. I have changed the fan clutch (GM OER) and the thermostat. I have checked the lower rad hose and the internal spring is there. I am going to get my thermostat housing, radiator, and overflow tank IR Gun tested just to be sure. I will get a new OER DeWitt aluminum radiator if the IR test indicates a need for replacement. I feel that the coolant temp should be stable at all engine speeds if everything is as original and working to specs. -Clark
