I own a 1987 C4 with 52,000 miles. A few days ago the car failed the Fuel EVAP test at my local SMOG Test Only station in Southern California. This apparently is a new test instituted last year for cars from 1976 through 1995. They pinch off the hose going to the evaporation canister and then apply 14 psi to the tank and see if the pressure bleeds off. It did. The smog tech said there is a “vapor ” leak between the gas tank and the evaporation canister. The car passed all the other emission control tests.
I suspect it’s one or all of the hoses that connect to the steel tubing coming from the tank and running up to the engine compartment.
Has anyone had this same condition? Is it easy to fix? Where is the best place to take it for repair or can it be done by just purchasing the correct replacement hose and installing it yourself?
You probably need to repost this in the Tech-Performance section to get a better response, but These are great people & they will help you with this issue. Since I live in Georgia & this is not tested, I wouldn't have a clue. Once again, Welcome!
