Damn, I just and read this thread. What a bummer. RIP, Nubs. I enjoyed your posts and PMs.
Snake - you were a very good friend to Nubs. He was lucky to have you stick with him through everything. There wasn't anything that you could have done to prevent this tragedy.
I really thought the arrest helped him turn the corner. I'm a lawyer and we exchanged PMs about the legal issue and other things. Sometimes he would respond the same day, but other times no response for weeks.
I feel really bad for his family, as they did so much to help him.
I hope he has found peace.

it did help him. He was clean for 90 days the longest time in 12 years he was very religious now and actually followed through on his word. Hell, the guy took me out for dinner twice this month. The only times in the 5 years of friendship he spent any money on me because the drugs were always more important.
he would dodge me like you guys and disappear for months sometimes..

We all knew it could go either way but I always encouraged him, showing confidence in him that he could win this.

Thank you, and you're right. It took me some beers and time alone sitting at the bar to accept that.

What is sad is that he didn't get into a good faith-based program like Teen Challenge or Reformers Unanimous.
I watched the hand of the Lord work through Teen Challenge for my best bud and his addiction of > 20 years.
Of course this only works when the pain outweighs the pleasure. Then alternatives, like really listening to some good advice on treatment and following through, are sought.

i wish he maybe would have tried a little harder for a program like that but i'm not sure he wanted that. he always thought he didn't wanna be around other addicts because it wasn't good for him.

Damn. I skimmed the entire thread hoping it was just a case of mistaken identity and that he was still alive. Sorry for your losses snakec6 and Force-1.

he went to multiple classes a week, with his new job he worked 1-9pm sometime later so it was hard for him to make it to a lot of them recently.

Only when there is nothing left to live for will they look for alternatives.
And a good program and bad memories will get them clean and keep them from relapsing.
And isn't it good to see the outpouring of support from the little group around here?

He was a funny guy, but I got frustrated with his seriousness about addiction. I could tell he struggled with hurting his parents and didn't feel worthy of their help. I exchanged some PMs with him after I lost my nephew last May to a heroin overdose. I was trying to encourage him to find a church but he never responded.

Sad news this morning. Rest in peace Mr. Nubain. No more fighting the demons. Prayers for his parents as well. They never gave up on him and it seemed they were always there to help pick up the pieces.

That's why failing drug tests and losing jobs and arrests and losing wives/GFs are the best thing to happen to an addict. The more malaise the better.

I'm blown away by the support you guys gave him and myself. I'm glad i decided to come on here. I knew he came here for a reason and now i see why.
