Default A Corvette Man

My Dad was a Corvette man. The only black owner of a Corvette as far as we knew in Central PA during the mid-60's. We had a system: Dad picked the platform and I'd go through the option list. Then he'd trim off all my off-the-wall ideas and buy the car. His '66 was a silver 390/427 4 speed, teak/telescoping wheel, outside pipes, both tops, AM/FM, leather seats, K66 ( a pain..), PS/PB...quite a car. Then he had the top painted black to match the interior. In the next ten years he put 285,000 miles on it. Yes, 285k. It was his every day all year round driver. Then in '75 he traded it on a new one, white with a black interior...which he kept for 9 months. Hated the choked smog "performance. After a series of luxury cars including a Cadillac Allante he got a new C5....and then another one...and then an XLR, combining the Cadillac and Corvette string. Then I lost him on August 7, 2007. The one thing I am thankful for beyond the relationship we had was that he was around when I got my first Corvette...a silver C6 convertible with a black interior, just like his first. I cherish the pictures we took of our cars together. But it all started with him.

Rest in peace and glory, Dad.

Very cool story. What a way to remember him by. Wish I had a father like that...

Always good to hear great car stories of a father and son.
Wonder what happened to his '66?

All of the above, and my best wishes to you and your family. Just look at all he did with, and taught you! Not to mention to appreciate cars in general, and Corvettes specifically. Sounds like our kind of guy!
