Default Snowman's Dad

My parents were married just over 60 years and for many of the last 10 years or so, it was clear that they were living to take care of each other. My Mom passed last October and my Dad went downhill pretty rapidly from there.

I flew up with my daughter to see him just before Christmas and he knew we were there but it was clear he was slipping.

I got the word on New Year's Eve that they'd taken him to the hospital pretty out of it. I flew up there NY Day evening and stayed with him until 1/4/2009 when he passed away.

My Dad loved music, his church, his work and his family. He was an honorable man.

His relationship with cars was as an expense item and what I learned from him was that I never wanted to be stranded in the middle of nowhere at night and not know what to do.

We had planned to have him down to the Cruisein this May if he'd lived that long but he didn't make it.

Doug

There could be no better epitaph -- that and the fact that he and your Mom had such an enduring relationship.

My condolences on your loss, Doug. You were fortunate to have had good parents and to have had them as long as you did.

Doug, I don't know you but we on the CF are family. I lost both my parents so I know how you feel. My deepest sympathy and believe me your dad was happy to see you and his granddaughter before he went to be with your mother.

Doug,
Seems like the last time I posted, you had lost your Mom. This has got to have been one of toughest of times for you. Hope you are handling this OK. Take care of yourself. Thinking of you.

This happens frequently with long time couples, once one passes.
Very sad indeed. But nice that you and your daughter could see him when he could still see you.
Sorry to hear of your loss
