Chuck ran his last race today...
...Unfortunately cancer beat him. My best friend, Chuck Mertz died this morning from a 4-5 month battle with cancer. Chuck was extremely involved in Corvette activites in the midwest, particularly in the Milwaukee area. He's been an NCCC member for as long as I've known him and loved competing in autocross, rallyes, and car shows. He's been affectionately referred to as a cheerleader and our cruise director because wherever the action was he was right in the middle of it and made sure that everyone pushed the limits of having fun. He leaves behind a son, Charlie, a daughter, Kristin, their familes including three grand sons, and his '04 Torch red convertible.
Like I said, he was my best friend and he is truly going to be missed. So let's raise our glasses and wish Chuck a clean run on his last lap in heaven.
Our love and prayers to his family...Jack and Kim Richards

It is always a sad day when we lose a fellow Corvette lover. There will be a Corvette waiting for him in Heaven with his personal plate. Our prayers to his family.
