Default CF Community Buttons HELP

Hope I can explain this.....recently I noticed that some of the Community Buttons disappeared on my screen. Upon closer look though I see some of "blended" into the dark background and when I move the cursor over them they turn red and I can then click on them.........
Is this something new from CF and if so why?
Thanks,
Dick

Example (with dark background assumed):

Community (is white)
C6 ZR1 (is dark grey turning Red with cursor)
C6 General (is dark grey turning Red with cursor)
C6 Tech & Perf. (is dard grey turning Red with cursor)
C6 Scan & Tune (is white)
C6 FI/Nitrous (is white)
C6 Z06 (is dark grey turning Red with cursor)
C6 Dealer Inventory (is white)
C6's For Sale (is white)
C6 Parts (is white)

See the following picture of my screen with my curso over "c6 General" section:

Don't think it's new at all. Hovering over a clickable text box where the text changes color is very common. Web designers use that technique to identify text so you know that by clicking on it will take you to a new page. My Community buttons turn red too.

Toward the top of the forum pages there is a page-width red box with links. Place your cursor over one of the text lines and a underline will appear. That's another method to identify a clickable text box.

I understand what you are saying....BUT I think this just started happening on my screen.. ALSO, why aren't the other link dark grey instead of staying white?

Good question. All of my Community links are white on the dark gray background. What browser are you using? Most browsers allow you to override the hover color and also change a color once you have clicked on a text box. Could be that something happened to the defaults for the browser settings.

The changes a user makes to browser settings are usually global so if you made a change when viewing some other website, it's possible that change affected the CF screen.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into it.

The links work correctly for me. What browser and what version are you using?

While the website hands out the instructions on how those links should appear and function via CSS, it's your browser that does the actual work. So if the links are working correctly for others (as it appears), there's either an issue with your browser settings being overridden, or there's another issue with your browser that clearing the temporary cache and history may resolve.

I'd probably first try clearing your browser's cache files and history, then restart the browser and computer.

Misunderstanding.....my buttons work fine, I was just confused about the words going to grey then red with the cursor vs white then red!
I'm using internetexplorer thru AOL.

I just noticed in your pic that there is a fairly large red underline and a gray underline below "Community" and again under "Corvette Store". My browser (Firefox 3.0.17) only shows a very thin red line under those heading and no gray line.

But when I use IE7, I can see the thin red line but also a thin gray line under that.

Guess this is more of a difference between browsers than specific configurations or options.

No misunderstanding. When I said links, I meant the way they appear as since I understand that was your report.

The CSS file(s) from this website tell your browser how to display those links (what they should be without hovering over, what they should look like when you hover over, when you've already visited them, etc.). The CSS files(s) basically instruct your browser as to how it should parse them.

So different browsers handle CSS files differently? With the version of FF I'm running, there are no grayed out links after I use them (at least with the Community Links) and I don't see the thick red and gray lines as shown in the OP's pic.

With the version of Firefox I'm running (3.0.17), the word "Community" has disappeared, as well as the line under the word. Also, the name of the first forum is indented about 5 or 6 character spaces. This started about a week or so ago. I think that's about the time I upgraded from Firefox 3.0.16 to Firefox 3.0.17.

I do see gray lines that turn red when mousing over them.

That's the same way that my page displays Wonder if this is an issue with this particular version of FF?

Browser compatibility has often been an issue with websites as some browsers don't react the same way with rendering pages. It's often why, when there's an issue, being asked what browser and what version you're running is often asked.

The original author of this thread is using AOL, which uses IE's core engine. This could be a compatibility issue, but it could also be local to the user with something changed on their browser settings or something wrong with their browser itself.

Here's what I see for FireFox 3.5.7 with C4 theme, which does have the link Community and looks overall consistent:

Even the C6 theme, which you appear to be using Jim, is displaying correctly for me with FireFox 3.5.7:

Well, I upgraded to Firefox 3.5.7. Here's what I see when I displaying any forum except the MAIN. Some things about the browsers, I know just enough to be dangerous.

The MAIN still doesn't display the word "Community", but it does not indent the name of the first forum.

Actually, I believe your menu is different because of your different user status.

But the display I've described has only been like that for a week or so. My user status hasn't changed in the last several years. I've been a paying member for 3 or 4 years, although just a permanent paying member for about a year.

However, the display problem is something I can live with.

Jim, what I mean is, users who are in the Supporting Members, Vendors, Administrators and Moderators will see a different design from "regular" and "IB Staff" users. This is why you see something different than what the original post had posted (with exception to the thick bars).

The template shows it has not been updated for some time, though that does not mean something could have been changed on CF's end as there are associated files to go along with the function. You did indicate you seen a change about the same time when you updated FireFox, so that may be an explanation. Did you use to have the "Community" heading above the links? From what I see, it's not in the coding and so no matter what browser you use, you won't see the "Community" heading. As to if it was intended to be there or not, I can't answer that as that's not my business. I can only say how it is currently.

Jim, what is the current issue you have? Can you elaborate? The original issue in this topic was the user is seeing inconsistent behavior with the links (different colors) which I believe (but cannot assert) it may be specific issue isolated to that user and their browser as no one else has reported a similar issue.

The links should not be blended together, as what the original poster has reported and shown in their picture. The links should change over "mouseover", but should not blend in the background - as the user has reported and posted. Based on input, it appears to me that it's an issue with the user's browser.

I should have stated that it's not really an "issue", just an observation that something had changed about my display of the "Community." I had forgotten that I had recently updated Firefox. The links in the community always work properly. Yes, the word "COMMUNITY" used to be over the community links until a couple of weeks ago.

To date, my only real "issue" with Firefox is that it does not always recognize internet links as such. For instance, I frequently save internet links in a MS Word document. When I open that document, I cannot click on a link when Firefox is my default browser and have it treat it as a link. I have to copy and paste it into FF's address bar.
