Typically, the small size on such gallery software has a "thumbnail" and a "regular" version of your pic. Right mouse clicking on the pick and looking at the properties may reveal a "thumbnail" identification..

Typically when you upload, the receiving software creates the thumbnail. On the forum, it creates it in a different subdirectory as show above.
Some will add a "_th" to the filename to show it as the thumbnail.
You can get fancy and use some code to use the thumbnail in your post that when clicked, will show the bigger one:
