The REAL day that the Corvette Legend began??
There are many dates in the history of the Corvette that are meaningful to many enthusiasts, from the original Motorama to the upcoming introduction of the C6 Z06 (which looks killer I might add ).
But a date in Corvette history - December 16, 1953 - that is often overlooked may, in fact, be the day that a new employee to GM, Zora Duntov, wrote a memo to his superiors essentially challenging GM to get involved in the "hot rod" movement. It was this memo that prompted GM to revise their strategy to not only "get serious" about the performance aspect of the Corvette, but also helped to create "one of the most successful performance parts programs in the industry".
(If you've never visited http://www.idavette.net, your missing one of the great Corvette websites of information anywhere! You can read the actual memo by looking at the info on Zora Arkus-Duntov)
Hey - we need a "winter" Corvette holiday to celebrate. Why don't we start a drive to make December 16th of every year ZORA DAY! It would not only be a great tribute to a great man that deserves to be remembered, and an instrumental date (and memo) in the Corvette legacy , but I, for one, need something during the winter doldrums to get excited about - other than Christmas!
Anybody agree??
Regardless, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year 2005!!

First sighted a 'vette in September, 1954. The white and brick building on the northwest corner of Woodward and Lincoln in Birmingham was a Chevy dealer. Was 10 yrs old and my older brother's buddy was service manager and pulled out of the garage into the sunlight with that all white and red interiored car! THAT'S when it began for me!!!!

split window '63 may be the artistic best - needed some different style at the front - but the rest was great - loved the doors molded into the roof!!!
